Details you always forget about various characters

The Crow's Third Eye

Recommended Posts

So while re-reading the books I always go over something about a character and think: really how did i forget that?! My top ones are probably:

1) Tyrion no longer havimg a nose

2) Tywin being bald

3) Jorah actually looking like a bear

4) Moqorro having a keg belly

5) Daario and his blue beard-tash

So i thought(hoped) that I cant be the only one to do this. What are the details about your favourite characters you always forget?

Mine are mostly physical.

*Ned was still a pretty young man in AGOT.

*Jon Arryn was considered a big strong active man when he died.

*Dany and Sansa are considered old enough in-world to lust after without being weird. I KNOW this, but I still go 'ick' whenever I hear either of them described as inspiring desire.

*Hoster Tully got fat as he got older.

*Joff was probably pretty intimidating, physically. Already tall and strongly built, with Kingslayer genes.

*Aerys was probably a very attractive guy under the crazy and hygienic issues.

*Cat was supposed to be quite attractive, just not as much as Sansa.

*Renly also endured the siege of Storm's End, ate rats, etc. and if anything had the roughest childhood of the 3 brothers.

*Nestor Royce is also described as a huge man.

*Theon was supposed to be very good looking before the redecoration.

*I have a hard time telling most of the Sand Snakes apart by name. I kinda remember each character type as described, but usually can't connect which name goes with which one.

*Jon Connington's a great individual warrior in addition to his leadership qualities.

*The Hightowers and Arryns are usually described as being extremely attractive.

*even though it's mentioned a LOT, I forget Tyrion's mismatched eyes. I remember the nose/ugliness, but forget the eyes.

*Melissandre is supposed to be really attractive. I always just think of her looking mysterious and hard to define and so forth. Any time I see fan art, I'm surprised.

I can't remember what I keep forgetting... :leaving:

That Little Walder and Gatehouse Ami are the children of of Merret.

Tom of Sevenstreams and jwho he is when we see him.

And just how many of the Brotherhood we see in AGOT, or that the tournament really helped fund their efforts later on.

I had clear images in my head about what the characters looked like but then my friend convinced me to watch the show ( normally I wouldn't as IMO books are always better) now I keep forgetting Tyrion is not just short but hideous and that Tywin is bald and beardless but has sideburns. Those two characters in the show changed how I imagine them when I read the books. Credit to the actors I guess.

Sansa is twelve in Clash and Dany thirteen when she sleeps with Drogo. I was fuking disgusted when I first read their wedding night and I always skip it on rereads.

I was very surprised when I read dany's sex scene. The whole finger thing.(you should know what I'm talking about.) I put my book down and did a motion like I just touched a bug. However, now I realize a different time different standards and social norms. But that won't stop me from doing the same as you skipping her sex scenes.

I think I either instantly forgot this or else never knew it.

Yeah, it is hard to reconcile with him being such an innate coward.

Forgot perhaps the biggest one for me: this is a medieval setting and therefore women are HAIRY!

I just try to put that out of my mind.

Especially imagining Selyse as hairy compared to that standard.

Yeah, same here. I mean I remember Ami (Three grooms ?) and Fat Walda, but not Little Walder.

I keep forgetting Norvos is fairly northern and that Areo Hotah is a fairly pale-skinned fellow.

Fat Walda too? Okay, there is another thing.

When assessing the HBO series vs. the books, the ages get so skewed for me. So when rereading, I have to revise my imaginings of characters. I was really shocked when I saw the show, and Sean Bean (50+ in real life) was playing a character who was 15-20 years younger. Same with all of them. I guess maybe the decision was made that people in their mid-30's couldn't possibly look that responsible; not to mention the teenage fornication question.

These

Dany didn't have hair for the majority of ACoK

And this. Edit: Also Jon having darker skin than Robb. I always picture them both being pretty pale.

Character ages. Always imagine most of the adult characters (Stannis, Sandor, Ned) as being much older than what they probably should be.

Daario doesn't even get a form in my imagination. He's just an amorphous, rainbow blob. I never really registered how his absurd features are meant to look. This probably applies to a lot of minor characters in Slaver's Bay.

Tyrion is actually meant to be reeeeaaaally ugly, and not anything at all like Peter Dinklage.

3.) Dany didn't have hair for the majority of ACoK

Didn't even realise I had been imagining her incorrectly for that period until now. Wow.

I always forget Jon is only 16/17 years old

I know...dude...I feel kinda dirty a lot of the time.

That Cat is only like three years older than me when the series begins. (!!)

That Theon doesnt look like Alfie Allen at all.

That Ramsay is supposed to be flabby and hideous. (not like a Dracula mini-me)

The colors of the direwolves not named Ghost and Grey Wind.

Dany's hilarious crown. (srsly read that description) I often forget that shes derping it up with that on her dome half the time.

Stannis is bald. Stupid sexy Stephen Dillane...

Dolorous Edd is actually in his forties or fifties...

3.) Dany didn't have hair for the majority of ACoK

Hoo yeah! I forget about that too!
