Prince/Princess that was promised

Hi all, been lurking around in this forum. This is my first post.

I've just finished AFFC. In the last couple of POVs of Sam, maester Aemon mentioned about the prophecy of the prince/princess who was promised. He was convinced that this was Daenerys. However, he himself stated that the prince/princess was born admist smoke and fire and has a comet heralding his/her birth. Daenerys was born during a storm (where is the smoke and fire?) and did not have a comet heralding her birth, so how did maester Aemon came to the conclusion that she is the one?

at the end of a game of thrones, dany stepped into drogo's funeral pyre (amidst smoke) and she was crying (salt),,,she looked up and there was the red comet that everyone spoke about in a clash of kings...it is said that dany was reborn after the birth of the dragons

As far as I can recall, and correct me if I am wrong, the wording of the prophecy is something like ... blah blah blah and this person will be reborn blah blah blah. The way I see it, that is exactly what happened with Dany, like the above poster said, she was "reborn" at the end of GoT.

Could it posibly mean Dalla's kid she had with mance rayder because technically that child was also born in smoke and ashes during the battle beneath the wall. I mean it is kind of far fetched but there has been a lot of focus (i think) on the baby. But then again like what Ser Lewis wrote, the prophecy uses the word "reborn" so im not quite sure. What are your thoughts?

No, because the kid is not a prince. The free folk don't see you as a prince just because your dad was a king.

The prophecy isn't smoke and fire, it's smoke and salt. She was born on Dragonstone, a volcanic island, hence the salt and smoke. It's the same reasoning that Melisandre gives for Stannis, though he was just hanging out there, not born there.

Smoke and salt automatically puts my thoughts into Euron Greyjoy -- did he really visit Valyria? If you check the World of Ice and Fire maps, the Valyrian Freehold was destroyed in volcanic debris -- something that's further evidenced in AGoT and AFfC --, and had a couple port cities; Valyria itself being one. I haven't read ADwD so I might be saying something dumb but if Victarion could get some attention from Daenerys... she's at the wrong side of Valyria and all...

If that is true then its going to take a lot more than two books until he grows up.

Thats just it though what if we don't get to see him grow up the ending is said to be "bitter sweet". What would be more so than ending with the long night still in full swing, the future looking grim, and the savior is a mere baby. Not to worry though for his is the song of ice and fire, and he will evvvenntuallly.....save everyone.

Dany being the PTWP certainly makes sense, but I've heard other people say that this could be too obvious for GRRM's style of writing and maybe he is leading us to believe this so we will be surprised when it's someone else.

Anybody else have thoughts on this idea?
