MLB 2014: Can't You Hear the Thunder?

Sorry to the Braves fans. Brutal news about Medlen and Beachy.

I was just dropping by to whine and bitch about that very thing. Kudos on stealing my thunder, Ser Ape.

No idea what our rotation is going to look like now. We signed E. Santana, which is ok, but now Minor is probably out til the end of April too.

Oh man, I didn't know Minor was hurt too (though it sounds like it's nothing like those other two). Still, I think Atlanta has a very good chance to be competitive and win the division. They didn't have Beachy last year...it just sucks to have thought you maybe had him coming back better than ever and then to find out he could be facing a massive setback. It still looks like a very solid team overall.

Minor's got shoulder soreness. They were hoping he might be back by the start of the season, but now with two other starters out they're taking every precaution. And yeah, not having Beachy back really sucks. He was overpowering when healthy. I'm not too worried about the rest of the team - the bullpen should remain excellent and I'm fine with the lineup (even Uggla, who's hit fairly well this spring). Consistent starting pitching will be needed though to beat out the Nats.

Absolutely terrible what happened to Chapman yesterday. It's a prediction I so want to be wrong about, but I still worry that something unthinkable is going to eventually happen on a line drive back at a pitcher's head

Agreed on both points. Chapman is lucky his injuries weren't much worse.

If you guys up there in Baseball land had any doubts about the local attitude to this series coming down here for a visit, I offer you this little tidbit.

Currently, New South Wales and Western Australia are duking it out in the final of the Sheffield Shield - the domestic cricket season trophy-deciding match. The NSW home ground is the Sydney Cricket Ground. NSW won the home ground advantage for the final. They are not playing at their home ground and are in fact playing it in Canberra - in the Australian Capital Territory(1) - a place that doesn't even field a team in the Sheffield Shield - because the SCG is being used for the baseball games.

So it seems the visiting teams have been offered some seroius status.

(1) Analagous to the District of Columbia.

I wants baseball season now. I may have found someone to go to Opening Day with me! It's very exciting, even if he is a Red Sox fan. That's not his fault...and if he loves baseball, then it's all good.

April 7th, home opener, no doubt snow and ice-laden, and I wants to be there!

Play ball, for the love of the gods old and new, let's play ball already.

I'm not sure, that looks a bit dodgy. It wants me to download software.

Goddammit, I think you might be right. All the links to live streams I'm coming across seem to be connected to internet gambling sites.

Can't really vouch for how safe or unsafe these might be. At the very least I imagine you'd be opening yourself up for a farkton of spam from these sites.

I feel like the animosity-pity combo would make for good conversations with a Yankee fan. And hey, it's still baseball and with a fellow fan, so it's all good.

What I really hate is this Early Season Start BS. An actual game has actually been played...for two teams. Staggered Opening Day is the worst thing in all of recorded history.

Agreed. It's just odd. It's like opening one small gift and then having to wait a week for Christmas morning. :ack: Kind of cruel, really.

And even then there are 2 opening days. Only half of the teams will be playing on March 31st ugh.

Ozzie Smith's petition has also gained the necessary 100,000 signatures to be taken into consideration by the White House, any chance it actually happens?
