I have really enjoyed the second half of this season. I think that a couple of episodes were among the strongest in the entire series. I loved the Beth/Daryl episode, and Carol with the girls will stay with me forever.

The one thing that I just can't grasp is why the Washington DC "mission" hasn't been firmly questioned yet? with the way team Eugene keeps pushing it to everyone they encounter, I can't fathom why no one has pushed to find even a small bit of validity in the idea. It compounds as more people are introduced to the idea. So far, this is the only writing failure that I have noticed in this season and I hope that the payoff is worth the wait.

I think the Beth/Daryl episode was pretty weak, but the Carol one made up for it.

I have at theory on Terminus and the season finale, spoiler alert

I think that Beth was taken by someone from Terminus, and that they went cannibal on her. I think that she'll die in the season finale, if she's not dead already. I haven't read the comics, but I do know that there were cannibals there).

The season finale looks it will be a very dark episode, but I'm looking forward to it A LOT.

  • 6 months later...

Passing the floor so much in anticipation of the premiere I had to go get a pedicure.

Yeah, the trailer makes me think this season will be way better. Can't wait to hear the theme music once again....right away gets me into zombie-mood.

I had a nice watch party at the house. It was agreed upon that this was the best season opener since the pilot. I really thought that we were going to have at least half of a season at Terminus. I am so glad they got that one out of the way quick. The slaughter line scene was brutal even for this show, but it still was a little contrived that all of our leads were on the other side of the no name red shirts.

I paused the episode right after the guy in the shack sent Tyreese out the door by holding the baby. We had a discussion about what we personally would do, and it was general consensus that we would have given the guy one opportunity to step away from the baby, and then we would have shot him regardless of what he did after that.

I agree. I think bum-rushing immediately was probably the best option. At that distance the guy is only going to have time for one of two courses of action; actually twisting the baby's neck, or preparing to fend off a much larger opponent. Doing the first would require an actual conscious decision to ignore the strong instinctive reflex to do the second. Leaving the hut was absolutely the worst thing he could have done.

Also, I am so relieved that Carol survived that ep. I thought for sure she was going to be killed by some stray bullet/random event/tragic bad luck/poignant plot device.

Last night's episode was so good. My only complaint is that it should've been the season 3 finale. It felt that epic.

Carol really has embraced what it means to be a bad ass. Walking as a walker like that with no visible sign of fear was impressive. Also, I liked that she had to really struggle against Mary. Carol is used to fighting mindless walkers, not humans. She's cold, though. Perfectly so.

I agree that Tyreese was being pretty stupid through that whole scene. As soon as the guy asked "What's the baby's name" I think I would've gagged him or just killed him (using post-apocalyptic level of morals). I know they were playing up Tyreese's arc, but it was pretty silly.

The aftermath of his fight outside was better than seeing it, though. Glad they framed that scene the way they did, even though I felt no tension that Tyreese was going to die. The pay off was still good.

Let's hope they can keep the quality up.

And I can't believe this is season 5! Granted I've only bee watching since the beginning of season 2 (after binge watching season 1), but 5 seems like such a big number for a show like this.

I was absolutely convinced that she was going to die, probably mistakenly shot/stabbed by Rick or Daryl at the end. It just felt like it was setting it up. "Oh Carol is going Rambo on Terminus? Yeah, she's going out in a blaze of glory. Now she's getting her own one-on-one fight scene? RIP Carol."

I was pleasantly surprised she survived.

100% agreed with the contrivedness. Still loved the episode.

I feel like the best course of action was to point the gun at the guy and then shoot him in the face. I'm pretty sure there is not enough time between pulling the trigger and the bullet blasting his brains all over the wall for him to twist a babies neck. And he can't do it before you pull the trigger because then he is a dead man.

Great episode. I also thought Carol was going to accidently get killed while trying to save them. I even envisioned her walking toward the group as a zombie still carrying the crossbow for Darryl.

The killing trough could have been done better.

A. Save one of the "red shirts" and just kill him off in the escape

B. Let one of the main charactors get whacked with the bat, maybe a glancing blow

I also thought they were going to stay at Terminus for a lot of the season, kind of glad they are on the move again.

That killing trough was motherfuckin' gnarly, man. That was pretty brutal to watch and I'm not really that squeamish about blood and gore. Great episode, though. So damn good. I wish the whole season was out so I could call in sick and binge watch the whole damn thing.

Yeah I think it's great they gave Carol that touching and excellently filmed reunion with the group...but I do think this was Carol's swan song, I think she will be killed before at or before mid season. Maybe they get Beth back but lose Carol.

As I've said before though...don't put any stock into what I say I am ALWAYS wrong in my predictions of this show.
