Skurken
Hey guys, first post here and not sure that I am writing in the right place. I own a copy of the slipcase edition from harper and voyage, and I wish to sell it. Its still in the plastic wrapping from when I bought it, so I haven't been able to check which edition it is. My question is whether this first book was only printed in first edition? I have read that only 3000 copies was made, so I just thought that there might only have been a first? I would really appreciate a answer, would be a real shame to take of the plastic if I doesn't have to. this is the book i am talking about: http://www.google.com/search?q=slipcase+edition+from+harper+and+voyage&client=safari&rls=en&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=05VDU9T6N4GXyAO8sIDgBQ&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAQ&biw=1440&bih=745#q=a+game+of+thrones+slipcase&rls=en&tbm=isch&facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=62lj9Efu_JEy4M%253A%3Bx1emmWEBneicJM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwerehamsterbooks.files.wordpress.com%252F2012%252F05%252Fp1020075.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwerehamsterbooks.wordpress.com%252Ftag%252Fa-song-of-ice-and-fire%252F%3B1024%3B514
DaveSumm
There were three printings of the first book, so you'd have to check. I don't think removing the wrap will affect the price though.
Skurken
Ok thanks :) Do you know if the second and third has any value at all? Or is it just the first edition?
DaveSumm
Second and thirds go for a lot as well. Several hundred usually, at least.
becca69
Best bet is to slit the shrinkwrap where the book can be removed from the slipcase. That way, if you want to keep most of the wrap intact, you can still check the printing of the book. Most collectors want a 1st print and it will affect the price, if you want to sell. BTW - Shrinkwrap is not good to leave on a book for very long. It's better to remove it. It can cause damage over the long run.
Justinian
I think I'm going to sell my first printing of this as a way to work my nerve up to sell my lettered set. Dip my toe in the water so to speak. EBAY HERE WE COME.
DaveSumm
I've only just started watching all these on ebay, is there always so many or is there just a rush at the moment while the series is on?
becca69
The show creates interest in new collector's, so you see many more books for sale, usually at higher prices. Justinian - Camelot has a full numbered set for $7500... you could sell your lettered or work out a deal with them for trade/cash if you still want a set of books. So the financially savvy thing to do would be to sell my 3rd edition now, then replace it with a 1st some other time. I just don't think I could bear the gap in my shelf for so long. :(
becca69
I only see 2 copies on Ebay US right now. I usually find the book I want to add then sell the one I have. I purchased the UK slipcase edition shortly after if came out from Abebooks for $23 and I don't know that I would be willing to spend $1000 on one when I could get signed, limiteds for that kind of money.
