(SHOW & BOOK SPOILERS) TV Character Death Predictions

According to this interview, D&D have no qualms about killing off characters that George has yet to kill off in the series.

You know [Thrones author] George R.R. Martin’s master plan. Is there a character on this show whose loss would really zap a lot of the life from the series?
Benioff: There are some characters who will die that I won’t think people will predict. And as George has said, we’re killing off more characters than in the books and will continue to do so.
Weiss: There are several characters whose loss will do that. But it doesn’t mean they won’t die.

Which characters do you think they may kill in the show at a different point than in the books?

My money is on Tormund for this season. Pycelle may also die sooner than in the books, as well as The Hound, depending on his future role.

I would also add Jorah to my shortlist. I think D&D could get Tyrion to Dany some other way (if they even meet on the show) and Jorah's kind of expendable outside of that.

Yara may also not be long for the show.

Killing off the Hound would be pointless and stupid, I really hope they don't do that. They have to know he's one of the most popular characters of all time.

I think they're more likely to kill off Margaery, a character whose death would be a shocker but would not really upset anyone given what little role she plays beyond this season.

What? All that stuff with Cersei and Margaery is considered a little role?

Anyway I think they'd only ever kill off really minor characters like Mago and Irri that they already killed off. Asha, no. Margaery, no. Correct me if I'm wrong but I do not remember anyone actually significant in any way being killed off (I know that we see Mago again in the books, but he is easily replaceable)

Edit: I don't think Jorah either. These characters are way too important. Think small

I don't think they'd kill off any really major characters (like Yara or Jorah). They mean characters like Talisa, Mago and Xaro, who don't have significant roles in the future beyond simply existing in the book's universe. Speculating things like "Oh, well, that means Tyrion's gonna get executed this season" seems to me to be unfounded.

The characters who are really in danger of unexpected deaths this season are at the Wall. I feel like Grenn, Maester Aemon, Tormund, Pyp, and Thorne all have a chance to be killed in the big epiosde 9 battle.

Alliser, Grenn and Pyp, definitely. Tormund - unlikely. Maester Aemon - it doesn't make sense, he is not a fighter.

I think that Grenn and Alliser Thorne will essentially divide Donal Noye's role, to the same end. We've seen in both the Foreshadowing video and the "In the Weeks Ahead" trailer that Grenn will be in the tunnel when the giant attacks the gate. I would put the odds of him dying during that confrontation at better than 50/50, especially since Jon to sends him off to the Shadow Tower early in ADWD and as far as we know, he has no further role to play in the story.

Thorne has a better chance of survival, but given that he's been established as the acting Lord Commander (and would theoretically be the favorite for the permanent job if he survives rather than Janos Slynt), I think that it would be more effective for him to forge an uneasy truce with Jon after Jon returns from Craster's Keep. Thorne could then die fighting Tormund, effectively bequeathing the leadership role to Jon. There's a chance that he could even say the words, "The Wall is yours" (Aemon says them in the books, but they might be even more effective coming from a former antagonist like Thorne).

How about Bronn? He's become a fan favourite. Would they dare? :P

I doubt it. We know from the trailers that Bronn is replacing Ilyn Payne as Jaime's sparring partner. The popular theory is that he'll continue in that role and accompany Jaime when he embarks on his campaign in the Riverlands. Given the sardonic nature of those two characters, it should be a fun dynamic to explore, for both the actors and the fans.

Best roadtrip ever.

Based on the trailer for episode two, it looks like Bronn is involved in a sword fight at the Purple Wedding. I'm a bit concerned they'll kill him off to better explain why he doesn't later champion Tyrion.

Easy. Now he has the favour of Jaime Lannister, you know, the son that Tywin likes the most, despite his preference for supper over Casterly Rock.

I hope you're right, but it's not like Tywin's exactly Jaime's biggest fan presently. Still with Payne out of the show's picture, hard to image who, if not Bronn, they'll replace him with for their adventures. I'm just not sure why Bronn would nearly have his head sliced off at the wedding if not defending Tyrion, or being attacked due to their association.

He's sparring with Jaime in that scene. It's just edited to make it look like he's fighting to the death.

Watch the trailer again, it's towards the end, after he's sparring with Jaime, Bronn is definitely inside what appears to be a sept when someone swings at his head and he lurches away. It's super fast.

It's not a swordfight, though: it's just edited to look like a continuation of his spar with Jaime. When you examine it closely, it's clearly Shae slapping him. I wouldn't say he's gonna be in any kind of mortal danger.

What are you, some kind of wizard? I do believe you're right ( no doubt she's pissed Bronn won't come to Tyrion's defense). That's a relief.
