I <3 Electro - The electronic music connaisseur thread

Sylva Santagar

Recommended Posts

I like a lot of electronic music but my taste is stuck in the past. Or, rather, I'm not into what's currently hot. My electronic taste is permanently stuck in, like, big beat, breaks, and trance eras with a little trip hop thrown in.

- breaks

- Ibiza trance, from the master

- breaks

- trip hop, although Morcheeba get mad if you call them that

- experimental group, less experimental track

- trance

- techno I guess? electronic subgenres are dumb

- breaks

- trip hop

Depending on how old you are most of that probably won't be new to you. I'd love to get some more recommendations but I'm not real into dubstep and the like.

I'm a big fan of live electronic. Bands like EOTO, Lotus, Particle (seeing next Friday!!!), Conspirator, Break Science, STS9, The New Deal, Zoogma, Future Rock, Disco Biscuits, Boombox...

I'll also listen to purely produced artists as well, but much prefer ones that I can see live and acually see them play the songs. Seeing an STS9 or Conspirator show was WAY more fun than seeing someone like Bassnectar even though BN had a better setup and lights.

Particle is awesome. I've seen them twice now I think. So good.

Yeah, I've seen them about 1/2 dozen times over the years and have two DVD's of theirs.

One time I was at one of my friends weekly Wed night shows in a top Minneapolis club called the Cabooze when Particle was out in the audience because they were driving through from Duluth. Well, during the second set the band has this extended jam on a song called Electric Shoes (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdUaglCc4hg). During this jam the bass player from Particle gets up on stage and takes the bass from the bass player. Then the keyboard player comes up and switches with one of the keys players. Then the drummer and guitar player get up their and start playing too and they go into this 20 minute open electronic jam with the members from Particle, one of the keyboard players, and the sax player that was there. It was absolutely EPIC! It also showed me that gear is pretty meaningless since once Particle got on stage you could immediately hear the difference in style and tone despite using the same gear.

Thanks for the many links!!! Will take some time to listen into all of that. I am mostly into Techhouse.

Will post some links at later time since I am on the road right now...

Wish you all a great weekend!!!

BTW

I listen to electro swing if that counts

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Eco4z98nIQY

Electro swing is great... Like to listen to it on sunday mornings :D

And everything counts, as long as it's electronic music :)

Lately my jam has been the Digitalism - DJ Kicks.

Sylvia, I am really bad at the various descriptors of electronic music... Even without the links, what would be some examples of tech-house in your mind? Something like DJ Hell/Int'l DJ Gigilos? Or more like Matthew Dear, Lusine, Ghostly type stuff?

Inigima, I can't remember, last time this came up, did I recommend Kruder & Dormeister for d&b/breakbeat? 'Cause if not, I totally am now. I think you'd dig them, based on your preferences.

Where you from, aceluby? I've seen tDB 30 something times but not lately since they've stopped touring regularly. Caught STS9 last Summer at the Bank of America Pavilion in Boston. Another good electronic band from around here worth checking out is the Indobox. Also, have been a long time fan of Brothers Past as well.

Thanks, I really enjoyed that :).

I would marry you!!! Lol I love Caravan Palace!

Hah, not every day I get a marriage proposal for my choice of music :P. But yeah, they're awesome. Really need to go and see them live at some point.

I don't think so although I know the name of course. I listened to some samples and they didn't grab me, but I have a lot of respect for your taste so maybe I'll grab an album and try them. Got a favorite? I like breaks, not really DnB though.

From the other thread, I am definitely going to check out your funk recs too, just haven't had the chance.

I have been out of that scene for a long time but I saw the Disco Biscuits in high school. They were fun although the main guy came out looking stoned as hell, gradually straightened out during the first set, then came back out after the half totally baked again. Uncivilized Area was a lot of fun.

MN, seen DB 1/2 dozen times too here, Chicago, and St Louis. Have you caught Conspirator yet? Aaron and the bass player from tDB play in it, very dub heavy, but really good. Will check out Indobox and Brothers Past today. STS9 is good, but after listening to them for years they have grown kinda stale for me. Check out Lotus and Future Rock if you like STS9.
