Glad you like it!

What are the classic house albums? Like, all-time.

I can throw in some names I think are pretty relevant when i think about the word "classic"....

Frankie Knuckles

Roland Clark

Larry Heard/Robert Owens

Eric Miller

Louie Vega/Kenny Gonzales

Vince Lawrence

Just to name a few...

Imho, the best single house album ever was:

Daftpunk - Homework

Probably not a very original choice... but this album is the shit.

Thanks! Any other specific albums or sets to recommend? I'm interested mainly in deep house so I think this is in your wheelhouse.

I have a few Daft Punk albums (Discovery, Homework, Random Access Memories) and I like some stuff from them but a lot of it feels almost Fisher-Price. I know that's a "me" problem and they've been hugely influential.

Gonna check out some of your links, but I'd like to hear some of your "normal" trance recs.

It's been a very long time since then and I haven't really been looking for any new trance music the past 15 years or so. Back then I mostly listened to Swedish music, so it was people like Antiloop, Pinocchio, and Earthbound (apologies for all the cheesy voice samples, it was the 90s after all).

I think the first trance music that got me hooked was Antiloop's debut EP, Not suitable for mass consumption, which was ironically named considering that exactly this type of music was in every top list in Europe one or two years later.

Unfortunately, house DJs and the like don't usually release much in the way of "album" format, usually a bunch of 12"s. While yes, I do have great taste (haha), I can't claim to be an expert, I did ask a friend who I would consider very well versed for his option. Echoing Sylva a bit, he mentioned Frankie Knuckles, Larry Heard, And Mr Fingers as DJs to check out, as well as anything from Trax records. There are a bunch of compilations (yeah, my old song) that collect a bunch of the stuff. Anything in the dance section that mentions the words "Chicago", the aforementioned "Trax", and dates in the 80s, or any similar combination or permutation thereof, are probably golden.

Sorry, we're all gearing up for Record Store Day, so I'll hopefully have more in a few days after our brains re-congeal....

Thanks. And yeah, comps and DJ sets are totally fine.

I picked up a Frankie Knuckles/Mr Fingers split, and it's good. i think I didn't mention this in my original post but I'm looking more for deep house than the old(er) school Chicago stuff, though I'll certainly listen to that as well.

EDIT: Picked up a couple things:

Southport Weekender Vol. 10, a comp mixed by Miguel Migs and Atjazz. Consensus seems to be that the first disc (Miguel Migs, tracks 1-19) is the main attraction. This is recent, from last year.

Moodymann - Mahogany Brown, an older release from 1998.

Also picked up a couple of Anjunadeep mixes, but as usual I am less than impressed by their work.

And of course will post links here in future that I listen to...

I started listening the EDM in the late '90s so I tend to gravitate towards DJ mixes, preferably trance, house, and drum and bass...I guess I'm more mainstream.

Classic all-time house artists would have to be Frankie Bones, who was one of the pioneers of house music in early '90s NYC. My all-time favorite raw house album would have to be Frankie Bones' Factory 303. Older Carl Cox should also be in this discussion.

Don't know a damn thing about all the millions of subgenres there are so I can't tell you what each of these fall under but oh well. I've been listening to these a lot lately.

Lindsey Lowend - Sass Mouth

<- Reminds me of something out of a video game, isn't chiptunes though.

This is awesome.

Been listening to some videogame-inspired music recently. I've never played Castlevania, but there's a particularly good remix album of some of the tracks that I've been loving: Joshua Morse - VLAD. Kind of makes me want to give the original game a try (although I suspect after hearing these remixes I'd probably be a little disappointed by the real thing :P)

Resurrecting this because I've been on an Electroswing binge today:

Whitenoise - All You've Got To Do

Dirty Honkers - Back to the Jungle (Smokey Joe and the Kid remix)

Chinese Man - Artichaut - (I guess this one is a strictly speaking a bit more turntablism than electro...still awesome though)

Kormac - Studio Sorcery

Jazzbit - Swingin Man

I've been tapping my feet all afternoon :).

Don't have links to hand, but a couple of other electroswing artists worth checking out are Parov Stelar and Gramatik (either not exclusively electroswing or there are two artists with the same name - look for "Hit That Jive").

Love Goldfish, anybody got any similar bands to rec?
