No ColdHands...

So it was confirmed by the actor who plays Samwell Tarlly that there will be NO ColdHands appearing on the TV series....saddens me... but it also answers many question around him which can all be summed up into this simple analogy that ColdHands really was no one of any import...

It makes sense that if he were cut that he must be a 'nobody', or at least someone with no role beyond 'guide'.

Bugger :(

As long as the books explain him, I'll be happy.

Could be there are more Coldhands-like characters later on and they figured they don't need all of them and/or don't think they need one this early.

So...who saved Sam and Gilly and led them to the Black Gate then? I've only seen through season 1.

They just kind of got there on their own, and the Black Gate was not magical whatsoever. Just a big tunnel right through the wall...

This may support theories that Coldhands is actually a character we've seen before, and the showrunners didn't want to spoil it in the show before the book. As in season 3, they couldn't have Greybeard be an anonymous old man for a whole season, and then suddenly reveal his actual identity to the audience.

No. If he is going to be important, they can add him later. How does not adding him now prevent them from adding him later if they have to?

Right. See how they threw in Dontos again at the last minute, they didn't go to the trouble of showing at-length visits to the Godswood, it was very impromptu. But, that might be a bad example because Dontos, to me, is not really a character with great depth and I had hoped Coldhands was.
