The Intro Title Sequence vs Other Shows

I really enjoy the tv show's introduction. The music is haunting and exciting. And the visual panning of Westeros, the mechanical symbolism of the citys', the castles and holdfasts are extraordinarily well portrayed. Each week I wait with anticipation to see what new item will be added to the montage . They have upped the bar for show introduction. I have come across one other show that is on the same page with presentation. The show is called Back Sails. It is on Super Channel.

Anyone have a favorite presentation?

I think it's the best introduction ever made. Everything about it is pitch perfect - the music, the attention to detail in the models & motifs, the pace and overall style. It really gets you in the mood. And unusually, it has a usefullness to the story, helping plant seeds about what could be otherwise rather confusing geography. My previous favourite was the eerie early Tom Baker era Doctor Who opening credits (mainly nostalgia I guess).

Maybe biased, but I think Game of Thrones has one of the best, if not the best title sequence. It's one of the few that I actually watch it as the show is starting. Most shows, I just want to fast forward through them. I think GOT and True Blood are two of the few that I don't fast forward. True Detective's was pretty good, but I always felt like it was kinda biting off True Blood's.

I actually like the intro for Black Sails better than the show itself.

For a kids/teen show, I always thought that Gargoyles in the '90s had one of the best intros ever: creepy, epic and action-packed.

For an older TV show, The Rifleman really grabs your attention with the rapid fire gunshots followed by epic music. For its time, it was a really bold intro, compared to the usual ballad-esque Marty-Stu intros of its day and age (think the beginning of Walker: Texas Ranger without Chuck Norris and more over the top)

Although I admit that we saw the South Park parodies of GoT before we started watching GoT so I can't help but hear "floppy weiner" when I hear the openings credits. That was remedied by the "Game of Goats" that was put out recently. Now I imagine goats blatting to the opening music.

Nothing will beat True Detective's imo. Game of Thrones' intro gets kind of boring and repetitive after a while, but True Detective's intro is as haunting and engaging the fiftieth time as the first.

I have those ideas reversed personally. Wouldn't say TD's got boring and repetitive but as the OP says watching for the little changes season to season and episode to episode in the GoT opening montage is always engaging. Actually I think I disliked TD's intro the first time (music more than the visuals) but in truth it did grow on me the more I watched (and re-watched) it.

I love GOT's because it doesn't get boring and repetitive: there are little changes each week with different locations, and of course it tells you who's appearing in the episode. Then you've got the other touches like the Stag at KL and the sigils next to each cast member.

HBO has done some incredible intros: The Sopranos, True Detective, The Wire, but GOT might have the best of the lot.

I really love the title sequence for GoT. While IMO the show itself is not one of the best on tv, the opening sequence certainly is!

I actually shouted at my unsullied Dad for fast-forwarding it all the time because he complains about struggling to follow where everyone is located compared to each other and it is the title sequence which helps this, haha
