Will House Baratheon survive?

House Baratheon of Storm's End is practically extinct. Renly is dead, Robert is dead. Stannis is at the Wall and he is Lord of Dragonstone.

House Baratheon of King's Landing (who are not Baratheons) is on its way to extinction as well. According to Maggy the Frog, Cersei would see her children crowned and killed. Joffrey is dead. Myrcella and Tommen are next.

The fate of House Baratheon lies with Stannis, who has no heir - save for Shireen, but she's a girl. Were she to marry someone from another house, she would have to take her husband's name.

If Stannis dies (what I think will happen, unfortunately), then, there's no more House Baratheon.

What are the solutions for the stags of Storm's End?

Shireen would have to do nothing of the sort. She's the heir, she has the power, she can do what she wants.

Well Robert did what 17 illegitmate children...at least four of which have been removed by Cersei (the twins in Lannisport and 2 others in KL)...the eldest of Robert's get are still on the board Gendry, Mya, Bella of the Peach and Edric, all are quite favourably endowed with Baratheon features....Edric has the support of those at Stormsend so therefore is not without allies....Mya, Bella and Gendry are born of commoners so therefore need champions to push any claim they might make....In the end we don't know what the Baratheon family tree looks like and whether there are brothers of Steffon and the progeny of them that might push a claim to the seat....So in conclusion it is premature to ask the question "Will House Baratheon Survive?'

What does it matter?

Well, she'd need to marry below her status or to 7th son or something like that to get a matrilineal marriage. The other proud houses wouldn't easily agree to a marriage where the children have their mother's name. She migh need an alliance with a Great House and thus agree to a marriage with an heir, and in that case the children will definitely get their father's name.

Certainly the Great House with the worse out of surviving is House Baratheon. Stannis can't win, and since he is not going to bend, he'll die. Shireen is not likely to survice, and if she does, the greyscale will complicate looking for suitable matches for her. And Edric Storm doesn't have supports. His mother's family, the Florents, have been exiled from the Reach and are going down with Stannis.

It's also the "youngest" of the Great Houses, so its disappearance wouldn't be that "huge".

Stannis cared NOTHING for birth and values ability ahead of birth. That is why he promotes Davos.

If he legitimized Edrik he would legitimize ALL the bastards.

Now he and Varys are the two who KNOW of Gendry.

If Shireen dies I believe Stannis would legitimize Gendry and make him heir to Storms end.

Indeed I am going to post an idea on this.

Mya Bella and Gendry need someone to know who their father was.

Well as far as Gendry goes the interest shown in him by John Arryn and Ned Stark should go a long way to his realization that he is Robert's son...Then again we are talkng Baratheons here and mental acuity is not one of their great qualities....

No offence but this is kinda, very, silly.

I disagree. Shireen could marry one of her bannermen and she could had passed her name like Anya did.

I think its entirely possible that Stannis, (or someone else in authority when all this is done-Daenerys or King Jon) will legitimize one of Robert's bastards-probably Edric Storm thus saving the Baratheon line.

I'm hoping that Shireen survives and maybe someday even marries-perhaps to Rickon, (who would care less about the greyscale and more about whether Shaggydog liked her smell,) or to Jon (if she could be healed of her scars-stranger things have happened in Westeros.) The latter match would fulfill Stannis's wishes that his daughter be Queen, it would reconcile the rift between Baratheon and Targaryen dynasties, and it would also finally be the blending of Stark/Baratheon bloodlines that the families wanted. And Jon is exactly what Stannis would want for a son-in-law anyway. Shireen may never be a great beauty but as ASOIAF makes clear looks can be a pretty negligible part in a marriage, and you do think Shireen would be a kind and gentle wife to Jon.

Two hands of King go out of their way to visit an armourer to and check out an apprentice...the first dies by poison (nothing really to do with the visit) the second beheaded the upshot being the apprentice is Robert's son and the supposed get from Cersei are in fact illegimate. Where is the silliness?

For all he knew he could be the son of anyone, Jon for example. Why exactly he had to think that he was Robert's son. How exactly he had to know what was going on to the palace? It's silly to believe that Gendry knew everything and after knewing everything wasn't able to connect the dots.
