If R+L=J is true, imagine how relived Ned was when....

So figure that.

R+L = J, Ned takes the newly born baby as his bastard, a son of northern lord with a lowborn woman, so it has to be born with the North features, dark hair and so far...

Now imagine if Jon was born silver haired and purple eyed, how da fuck would Ned explain that to Catlyn and the world...

I can imagine he s face ( thank (the old) god, for those northern looks.....

I'm thinking the baby had the Stark hair and eyes at birth. Otherwise it would have been a huge risk to take him back to Winterfell. Granted if Ned got there before Jon was born, or made his promise without seeing the baby, then yes I imagine he was very relieved.

He could have passed it off as the mother having some Valyrian blood. Takes the fisherman's daughter idea out, but he could have met a silver-haired, purple eyed girl. And it would support the idea of Ashara being the mother (assuming a good number of Daynes have the silver-gold hair to match their Valyrian eyes).

But yes, Jon's having the Stark look does make things easier for Ned.

Ned's could of explained he had an affair with a Lyseni, or or any inhabitant of the free cities. They have Valyrian looking people.

Still would have been a bit suspicious, his sister disappears with Rhaegar..Ned goes to rescue her after she's spent a year with him, then he arrives back with his dead sister and a silver haired baby.

I think people would ask serious questions of that.

"Oh, he must look like his Dayne side."

I sincerely think that's the motive behind the Ashara Dayne rumor. If Jon looks like a Targaryen, it just seems to reinforce the Dayne rumor. Apart from the Dayne connection in general (e.g. Arthur being at the Tower), it's convenient that one of the major "contenders" to be Jon's mother just happens to come from a family that can share features with the Targaryens.

Or, assuming is a Targ/Blackfyre, Ned could have dyed his hair and hoped people didn't pay too much attention to his eyes. Although that route would have involved Ned most likely telling Jon his parentage so he wasnt suspicious 24/7 of why his "father" dyed his hair all the time, lol

Imagine that:p Jon about 8-10 asking Ned 'Why do we have to do this father?'

'Well Jon, it's like this; if we don't Robert is going to come up here and cave my chest in with a warhammer so just shut up and come here' :p

Newborn eyes are often indistinct blu-ish gray or dark brown

And often babies are born with hair a different color than when they grow up. My daughter had straight, jet black hair when she was born (her father was 1/4 American Indian) but now has curly blond hair.

"But Father, you don't have to do this with Robb--"

I had perfect blonde hair, almost white, until I was about 7, and then it turned the medium-to-dark brown that it is now. So yeah, definitely happens!
