Re-reading by POV - best order?

Barney

Recommended Posts

This is my first visit to Westeros. I read all the books very quickly a few years ago. I need to re-read as I obviously missed lots of details.

Someone suggested reading each POV on its own. Does this work? And if so which order should I read them in?

My gut feeling is Eddard, Tyrion, Bran, Jon.... then who? Is there an optimal reading order?

Many thanks!

I posted this in another thread:

"if this is your first reread, and you went through the books quickly the first time, and have difficulty remembering of missed lots of details, then I would suggest re reading the books in the proper order at a slower pace first. Take the time to absorb what you're rereading with the hindsight of knowing what happens later on. try to look for things u may have missed the first time around, or links that seem obvious now.

I feel like doing specific character rereads at this point wouldnt be that beneficial. its better to have a solid understanding of the scope of the entire story before looking at particular archs in that story. IMHO at least. Once u know exactly whats going (or as well as possible given the information in the story) overall, u can look at particular characters.

I feel like rereading by povs is more for analysis and character development, and not necessarily how that character ties into the overall story. So if for ur first reread u choose to reread by pov's u run the risk of missing crucial links in the story once again

I recently completed my first re-read and would highly recommend doing a full regular re-read first. There's a lot of small things I noticed interplaying and foreshadowing throughout the series that Martin crafted in well and would best go through the proper balance he wrote.

I'll probably next do a character-by-character re-read but I took away such a huge amount more from just doing a nice and slow and thorough re-read of the entire series. So much slipped past and so much was in there just begging to be noticed that would come back later.

I would love some suggestions for a different re-read order just to mix it up and probably see story from a different viewpoint. I have also heard that re-reading in POV gives it a twist but just like Barney in his initial post, I would love the preferable order of POVs. I have also heard that re-reading it by geography is an option and will help the reader have a better grasp on the specific kingdom. Don't know about you but I do have trouble jumping from Dorne into Meereen.
