Regarding the Euron Greyjoy theories (spoilers all books)

Long time lurker, first time poster. I was just reading about the Daario/Euron theories which make a lot of sense to me, so I thought I'd add a random thought.

If the theory is true, that Daario and Euron are the same person, then Euron is disguising himself quite cleverly, without any need for "glamours" (I hate all glamour theories - I think the only one that makes sense is Melisandre). Euron is said to have a bright blue eye and a "dark eye", but we never see this dark eye of his, as it is covered by a patch. Now, it is a common idea to the Euron/Daario theories that both of his eyes are actually fine and it is simply a super effective disguise as nobody would think a man with one eye and a man with two eyes are the same and dying his beard blue handily hides the lips of Ibad.

Now, the only problem with this is that he can't cross the sea on his own. He needs a ship, and a crew, but sailors like to drink and sailors like to talk, so for the theories to be true, Euron would either need to find sailors who don't gossip (HAR!) or he would need a ship crewed entirely by mutes - which he funnily enough has. :)

How can Daario be Euron when Daario is with Daenerys at the time Euron is in Westeros or am I wrong? I personally think this is a bit of a stretch.

Supossedly, when Daario/Euron is sent by Dany to Lhazar, he goes back to the Iron Islands and calls the kingsmoot etc. and then he comes back to Meereen. I think this is a stretch as well, since sailing from Slaver's Bay over to the Iron Isles, staying there for a few months and coming back and completing his mission in Lhazar and going back to Dany would take more than a year, when Daario is away from Dany for like, a couple of months. Its an interesting theory but not at all possible IMO.

Basically, this.

It is quite an assumption but what could work in favor of this theory is that, relatively speaking, you don't have to travel very far west from westeros to reach the far eastern shores of essos. This would dramatically reduce the time needed to complete these frequent voyages. Chronologically there is always quite a gap between chapters involving Daario or Euron. Improbable, perhaps, but definitely not impossible

Since we have very little idea how long it takes to travel from one place to another and how long there is between chapters, I don't think this can be used to call any theory impossible. Martin's answer to someone who apparently reasoned that it was impossible for Stannis to show up at the Wall in time kind of applies here, I think:

The reason I am never specific about dates and distances is precisely so that people won't sit down and do this sort of thing.

My suggestion would be to put away the ruler and the stopwatch, and just enjoy the story.

This of course does not mean that Euron is Daario. It just means that geography is not the reason.

Well, GRRM has told us there's other continents in the way.

Besides, surely you're going to run into the descendants of Bran the Shipwright and the skraelings of Grrthmerica. Either they turn you into missionary stew, or they're more fun to hang out with than Dany or the Iron Islands. Either way, nobody comes back from the Sunset Sea.

Oh by the flaming tits of R'hllor, everyone isnt someone else!

And they're not TARGS, either!

Hold on a sec, if neither one is a Targ, then clearly they are the same person, because everyone knows there's only one non-Targ on the planet.

I found the evidence posted in the link below quite compelling - especially with the quote from GRRM about distances. Daario was away for months, thus, he was absent. During his absence he can easily get to the Kingsmoot and back if the story demands it.

Euron isn't Daario. Because I doubt he just abandoned the Iron Islands. If he just vanished again Aeron would be able to get the Ironborn to elect another king. That was the very reason he couldn't leave to go getting Dany himself.

That's one thing against the theory, but it doesn't disprove it. Yes, Aeron will make trouble for Euron if he were to leave again, but Euron took the Iron Fleet south raiding and sent a grand portion of it to Meereen. They are too busy to have another Kingsmoot, and if they had one while the fighting men were away, when they returned they would not see it as legally binding - but I doubt Aeoron would do that. Having a new Moot while the others were away would not please the Drowned God, it sounds too much like cowardice.

This of course does not mean that Euron is Daario. It just means that geography is not the reason.

Considering that Westeros is the size of South America, and Essos roughly the size of Europe and half of Asia (up to Asshai). Put them next to each other, and suppose the Narrow Sea is roughly 3/4 as wide as the Bay of Bengal. Now imagine going from the Black Sea (Slaver's Bay) all the way up to Peru (Iron Islands), stay there for a few months, and then go back again with ships of medieval technology. Realistically speaking, it's going to take you A LOT of time, no matter how fast Silence is or any other ship Euron might use. Where Stannis traveled across half the continent, Euron supposedly traveled across 1/4 of the world. Now, I'm not a specialist on this stuff or anything like that, but traveling from that big a distance and then going back some time afterwards is going to take 1 year at least with medieval technology.

Interesting theory. Euron and Daario certainly seem to have a similar personality - confident, dangerous, and successful with women (Euron says Victarion's salt wife came to him 'wet and willing') Maybe this is why HBO changed Daario and got a more 'northern Westerosi' looking guy in his place? Though I read another crazy theory that this switch was made because Daario is Benjen, which of course doesn't make any sense (I can't imagine Ned's little brother being a dashing paramour for one thing)

If Daario is Euron he's going to have a hard time telling Dany the truth. She doesn't forgive liars no matter how much they mean to her or her army (think Jorah)

You completely misunderstood the point, which is that GRRM, the creator, has explicitly stated (in the link of the post you replied to) that it doesn't matter how far away or close something is, if the story requires it, there will be a way for them to travel where needed. Daario only needs to be away from Meereen when Euron is seen elsewhere - the geography is irrelevant.

If Euron is not Daario, then all chapters centered around both of them haven't really gone anywhere. Daario would be 100 useless and EUron would have just crashed a keep and partied within two whole books.

I think Daario's new actor is a huge hint he is Euron. He looks very similar to how he does in the books, and it would explain why the Kingsmmot had to be skipped, because they can't expect people to not realize it is him (though they could just use another actor like they did with Jaqen, assuming Euron is a Faceless Man). That's pretty much the reason why Barristan took his disguise off right away, as opposed to almost two books.

I believe the books imply that Euron has had his eye patch for quite some time. He's at least had it since before Theon was sent away and that was when Dany was a little girl. Has Euron really been planning to use a disguise like this for that long?
