So I'm bored and I was thinking about QB's and how I'd rank them. This is a bored muse, but I thought I'd try to take a different approach to appraising the QB's in the game.

Legendary Status:

Tom Brady

Peyton Manning

Aaron Rodgers

MVP's:

Drew Brees

Andrew Luck

The Freakish Talents:

Matt Stafford

Jay Cutler

Ben Roethlisberger

Tony Romo

Micheal Vick

Great Performers:

Phillip Rivers

Matt Ryan

Dependably Good Players:

Russel Wilson

Alex Smith

Questionably Good Players:

Colin Kaepernick

Carson Palmer

Robert Griffin III

Cam Newton

Josh McCown

The Gunslingers:

Ryan Tannehill

Eli Manning

Matt Schaub

Ryan Fitzpatrick

Not Sold At All:

Andy Dalton

Sam Bradford

Matt Cassel

Brian Hoyer

Nick Foles

Guys Who Kinda Suck:

Jake Locker

E.J. Manuel

Joe Flacco

Guys Who Really Suck:

Geno Smith

Clownshoes:

Blaine Gabbert

This is just kind of a order of how I'd group the significant QB's in the league. No rookies.

This is the latest NFL thread. Not a whole lot of chatter as this is the dead time on the calendar, and it is hard to get really excited about players getting suspended for pot.

Welcome back Sivin!

And lol at Cutler/Romo/Big Ben and an aging Michael Vick being considered freakish talents but RGIII/Kaepernick/Newton not.

Welcome back, Sivin!

As for Jace's list, I am not sure how any of those "Gunslingers" actually fit the description, and I would almost certainly re-classify Schaub and Fitzpatrick as "Kinda Suck."

I seriously question those guys' ability to play well for any length of time.

I was trying to be nice.

If you guys hate it so much, make your own damn list! :bawl:

Schefter reporting that CK and 49ers agreed extension worth +$100 mil over 6 years. I don't know the exact numbers and I'm curious to find out since it'll affect Dalton as well.

61 million guaranteed.

61 million guaranteed.

That's a ridiculous amount. Aaron Rodgers got 62.5 mil and Drew Brees got 60 mil. Fairly sure Brady/Manning come in around 57-59 mil guaranteed. Crazy.

ETA: It's actually 6 years, 126 mil with 61 guaranteed. That's insane numbers for a QB who averages less than 60% completion and 200 yards per game passing. He's valuable, no doubt, and the 49ers have been successful, but they were successful with Smith too and they only valued him at 7.5 mil. Is CK worth that much more on that team? I don't think so.

I thought it was on the high end of the reasonable spectrum. The Rodgers and Brees deals are a few years old, right? Inflation, increase in salary cap -- those can explain the similar numbers.

It's insane when you look at his raw numbers, but maybe not so insane if you think Colin Kaepernick's skillset is the only way to consistently beat the Seattle defensive blueprint. I'm guessing Harbaugh is confident he can keep improving Kaepernick's skill set and consistency.

I'm sure this was a factor because you're right in that CK's skillset is really the only way (that I can see anyway) of consistently beating that team. I will be interested to see how this affects their team over the next few years though it might not be as bad as you'd think with the salary cap expected to be around $150M in 2015.

Any free agent quarterback can just rake his team over the coals if they aren't fortunate to have an incredible backup waiting in the wings.

Seriously, the Niners had no alternative to paying Kaep whatever he wanted. There is no such thing as an open market for quarterbacks. It's not like you can just say see ya later, we'll go get a reasonable facsimile. There are guys that can win in the league, and there are a lot less of them than there are starting QB jobs, and then there is a ridiculous drop off. Seriously, look at the quarterbacks that moved in free agency this year: Michael Vick and Matt Schaub were the big "prizes".

I am optimistic that the Colts will be a #2 or #3 seed. :) Love to you, guys!

(This is the newest NFL thread, right?)

WELCOME BACK MY YOUNG PADWAN!

Also Colts will be in the running to be the top seed for AFC.

Jace: your list kinda suck :leaving:
