Westeros
This past February, I had the opportunity to interview a number of actors in London. One of the ones I was most eager to meet—because she had been rather difficult to get an interview with previously!—was Sibel Kekilli, who plays Shae. Although given the early date of the interview it was difficult to approach anything discussing her big turn this season, it was a good chance to catch up with the actress.

An award-winner in her native Germany for her powerful work in films such as Head-On and When We Leave, Kekilli proves to be a very enthusiastic interview subject—a lot of exclaimations, a lot of smiles, and not a little laughter.

Interview

What was it like, when you first got involved in Game of Thrones?

It was my first significant work in English, and for HBO as well. The first season, when I was auditioning in June 2010, we started filming not long after that. People didn’t know how long the show would last, that it may not even go to a second season, that I may just have a few episodes to do. So I was, okay, I liked the character, and I didn’t know where the journey goes so that’s interesting. I was very naive, I thought perhaps I’d die in the second season.

But then it got a second season, and I said, “Oh, I don’t want to die! I want to be on it as long as I can!” I was so proud to be part of this big show.
read on >>>Visit the Site! Seneti
Wonderful interview! I love how she said she watches everything she's in twice - once to critique her performance and once just to enjoy. Might be a nice approach for those book readers who love to hate the show.
Trillian
I giggled when she said she didn't recognise Gleeson, and she had me completely at "Let's start with Nikolaji!". I'd say one of my favourite interviews of this bunch.
boojam
She certainly was good natured and gracious about her character. Saw an interview with her else where , where she had asked George not to kill her character off, which amused GRRM since that had happened more than a decade ago. Maybe she thought he would write episode 10? As she said , because of her difficulty with English she did seem to struggle now an then, tho she was good in the Blackwater episode and better in seasons 3 and season 4. At least she had the screenplay was in her hands for season 4 so she knew the whole story. (The only actor who seemed a bit miffed by her demise was Roxanne McKee since they changed the story for her and I think Amrita Acharia during the season so their demise was a surprise to them... tho Amrita never complained about it. McKee's was mild enough, yet she is left off HBO's cast list... but that's a mess since I think there are some other actors missing too.)
