Netflix's new epic drama - 'Marco Polo'

Marco Polo is a television drama series about Marco Polo's early years in the court of Kublai Khan, scheduled to premiere on Netflix. The series was written and created by John Fusco and stars Lorenzo Richelmy in the title role.The series is produced by The Weinstein Company.



The project will premiere on Netflix in late 2014.



Lorenzo Richelmy has been tapped to star as the famed explorer in the drama series based on the adventures of Marco Polo, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.


The drama was created by John Fusco and focuses on the famed explorer's journey that takes him to the center of a brutal war in 13th century China -- a world replete with astonishing martial arts, sexual intrigue, political skullduggery and spectacular battles.



Fusco and Harvey Weinstein will executive produce the drama. Dan Minahan (Game of Thrones, True Blood) will also exec produce and direct two episodes. Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg (Kon-Tiki) will direct the first two episodes.


The 9-episode series will film in Italy, Kazakhstan and the new Pinewood Studios in Malaysia. Marco Polo will premiere in late 2014 on Netflix.

I hope they include Khutulun, the Mongolian wrasslin' princess.



Looks like its got a pretty good cast so far, and we'll be getting a good look at Marco Polo's days in the Middle East too which should be cool. The casting of Rick Yune suggests some pretty damn good fight scenes are in store.

as long as it isn't like Da Vinci's demons - I'd like it tobe at least loosely based on real events

Oh god what a horrible idea. Hopefully it does keep to the brush strokes of history. A bit of embellishment isn't an entirely bad thing though.

I'm cool with a bit of drama but maybe not have him as a swashbuckling hero who holds the fate of the earth in his hands. A moderate amount of swashbuckling is ok though :)
