Do we now know the Princess of Dorne (Doran's mother)'s name? (If not, what are the suggestions?)

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if, like Ned Stark's mother, Doran Martell's mother has been given a name in the companion book?

If not, are there any fan favourite names for her?

Also, do you think it would be better to refer to her as Lady Martell or Princess Martell or Princess of Dorne (or other) if/while she doesn't have a name?

Thank you in advance!

(Apologies if I have anything wrong about posting - I don't really know my way around here :P)

Hopefully we will find out her name, but as far as I can tell the sample pages from the book depicted the Stark Family tree and so far there hasn't been any info on the Martells.

I hope we find out in the book :)

As for proper title, Prince/Princess is definitely preferred over Lord/Lady, since it is a part of their Rhoynish heritage and an indication of their privileged status among the great houses of Westeros, a result of their long resistance against the Targaryens. As for Princess or , Princess of Dorne, I am not sure. By my reading of the novels they seem to be interchangeable, though that could be incorrect if someone has more insight than I do. Hope this helps!

She was definitly the ruling Princess of Dorne, Lady of Sunspear, Princes ___ Nymeros Martell.

We don't know her name yet, though as far as female names we do know about go, we have Meria/Maryia/Mirram, Arianne, Elia and Mariah.

Oberyn named Elia Sand after his sister.. Quite possible the first of his children he had a chance of naming himself. Obella seems to be named after Oberyn, and perhaps it was Ellaria's turn to choose a name. In such a scenario, Oberyn might have picked the name for the third child, Dorea. If he honoured his sister with naming one child after her, why not a second? If his mother was named Dorea, Doran might have been named for her.. Though it is also possible that Dorea was named in honour of Doran himself, of course.

That leaves (as far as Oberyn's kids go), Loreza.. Perhaps she was named after Oberyn's mother then..

If not, names like Mariah, or dornish variants of Daenerys, might have become more popular after Dorne married into the Targaryens. Looking at the timing of the marriage of Maron and Daenerys (197AC), and Doran's birth (248AC), and the fact that we know that after Maron, a son ruled (or at least, a son was heir), it is quite possible that Doran's mother is the only generation between the son of Maron and Daenerys, and Doran. In which case it is not unthinkable that she was named after Daenerys or Maron.
