I'm back on the rowing machine, and I enjoy it more than I'd expect.My fitness is getting better and better from that, some running and weights.Things seem to be going in the right direction. On the other hand, my diet needs some major change.This World Cup will be the death of me - almost every day I get a few beers and some snacks while watching games and so on.Also, I've changed a job and eat out a lot which has caused a drop in quality of food. If you don't mind me picking your brains for a moment... Your form in the OHP video involved quite a significant lean backwards. I've always been taught to try and stay as vertical as possible because 1. There's a risk of injuring your lower back 2. It makes for a stricter "shoulders" movement rather than turning it into a very high incline benchpress Are either of these true? Is it that important to remain completely vertical or can you lean as long as your core is tight? If it's relevant, I lift without a belt but at considerably lower weights than you (no shit). My lower back is very strong and having a lean has never put any pressure on my lower back and actually feels more natural to me, this is personal preference more than anything.2. This is no doubt true BUT made up for for me by the fact that you can use more weight and are therefore overloading your muscles more, plus the fact that a high incline bench is going to be mostly using delts and triceps as well so the exact same movers as a strict OHP Yeah I wouldn't probably wouldn't use the same amount of lean without my belt but I always wear one on heavy sets lol. Getting promoted last season has the coaches all excited about being the 'fittest, best prepared' team in the new league and all that shite, there's been 'voluntary' gym sessions for a while that I've been dodging. Biter Posted July 5, 2014 Share Posted July 5, 2014 Running is getting good. Got a new record the other day at 6:38/km, which I equalled today over a longer distance and time. It's still tiring, but it's not quite the same struggle it used to be. Should be at 5k in a week or two, which I both dread and look forward to. The running times are increasing rapidly, although I'm pretty close to 10mins non stop now. That sounds great. And I'm not saying that just because of our shared Nigeria fandom in the World Cup... Thanks :) But I know I should have come in under 35 minutes. I tend to set my goals a little out of reach- times I might hit on the right day with a breeze at my back- and then miss them. This time I wanted to set a goal and hit it so I set something I felt was well in hand. And missed it. :lol: That's instructive, though, I guess. And do pilates three times a week. The World Cup is indeed an open invitation to alcohol, but I detox with green tea and 1,5 litre (ten glasses) of water the next day. Deload week stretched into jesus-christ-what-the-fuck-is-hapenning-in-this-city week and now into fuck-exams-already week, so I haven't been to the gym in ages. On the other hand, there was a fair amount of walking, because racists turn out to be mobile, energetic little bastards and the half assed furious frustration of the Jerusalem Antifa attempts turns out to translate, for practical intents, to spending my evenings bouncing back and forth through downtown like an angry, helpless ping pong ball. (Sorry, I guess I need to vent a bit.) But! I am totally going to get my act back together, pull an allnighter on some overdue school stuff so it's finally out of the way and then go to the gym when it is early and quiet and I shall have it all to myself (mwaha) and hand in the stupid school stuff and then sleep and then wake up and then all shall be well. I can't recommend my pre-race method of handling expectation onion. I get nihilistic and ask myself repeatedly "why did I sign up for this again?" And then I promise that once the race is over I'll never do another one again. Then of course I place well, ego is fed and I look to the next race. I'm like Sisyphus.
