Fireandblood94
I'm currently watching the Borgias and I've noticed a lot of similarities in the characters of both families membersRodrigo- Tywin ----> both stern ambitious men, political savvy and concerned with family legacy. Willing to use their childern to achieve their aims with or without their consentCeasare- Jamie ----> both are the sons of fathers who want them to become the things they despise. For Jamie it is the future ruler of Casterly rock, for Cesare it's being a cardinal.Cersei- Lucrezia Both the daughters of ambitious men, both beautiful women ruthless and cunning. Are their any other historical families in ASOIAF? MoseStark*
I've also watched the Borgias, and I think this is a quite interesting. I don't think George intended this when he wrote the series. But there are similarities between the Borgias and the Lannisters. There were also rumours about an incestuous relationship between Lucrezia and Cesare, so another similarity with Jaime and Cersei... The more I think about this, the more I like it. I don't know if there are more families this similar to a historical one. But because the books are partly based on the War of the Roses in England, I guess you could say House Lannister is the fictional version of House Lancaster in the War of the Roses and House Stark represents House York. But I guess GRRM has stated this himself...
assjfjgjsgjljljglgjfjsduar
Historically, they're quite like the Woodvilles. They were Lancaster (Targaryen) courtiers before the Yorks (Baratheons) took over. Their daughter Elizabeth (Cersei) married Edward IV (Robert). Elizabeth's brother Anthony was considered a quintessential Renaissance man, in terms of both intellect (Tyrion) and military prowess (Jaime). Jacquetta, Richard Woodville's wife, was supposedly the one who influenced a lot of her husband's planning and temperament, not unlike Joanna. Tywin is admittedly more formidable than Elizabeth Woodville's father, true. Elizabeth's kids' legitimacy was challenged by Edward IV's brother, Richard III (Stannis).
