Storylines and Characters that will be cut in Season 5 (and possibility 6)

Recommended Posts

The Wall:

  • Alys Karstark and the Karhold Succession debacle (cut)
  • Val "The Wildling Princess" (her role will be given to Tormund)
  • Mance's baby (cut)

Other than that, I think the Wall story line will be fairly similar to what is portrayed in the books: Jon beheading Janos Slynt, treating with the wildlings, giving Stannis advice on how to receive northern support, growing tension in the Night's Watch, conversations with Melisandre, the pink letter and the "Caesar Assassination". I also think by the end of Season 5, Jon will become a new favorite character among the Unsullied.

Across the Narrow Sea:

  • The three fighting companies formed by Daenerys
  • The merchant emissary Xaro Xhoan Daxos arriving from Qarth bearing a gift of 13 ships in exchange for Dany's abandon of Slaver's Bay and departure for Westeros (Xaro was killed in season 2, and it might be a waste of screentime)
  • Cupbearers and the hostage situation
  • Quentyn Martell arriving to make marriage pact with Dany (possibly replaced with Trystane or simply cut out or hell, even used)
  • The character of Penny
  • Varys either replaces Jon Connington or Haldon
  • Taking of Griffin's Roost (I think instead Aegon will just take Storm's End)
  • Quiathe's warnings to Daenerys

The North:

  • Jeyne Poole

King's Landing:

  • Jaime may leave for Dorne to collect Myrcella first, and then head to the Riverlands (like the reports from the casting leaks are saying)
  • Kevan Lannister will be cut
  • The Kettlebacks will be omitted (replaced with either Meryn Trant or some other character)
  • Taena Merryweather, Falena Stokeworth, Orton Merryweather will be omitted
  • Cersei and Jaime's relationship will deteriorate early next season
  • Cersei will not act like a whore and seduce random men to do her bidding
  • The Walk of Shame will have the actress with her hair intact.

The Riverlands:

  • Jaime will only deal with the Siege of Riverrun before heading off with Brienne
  • Brienne will not pass north to Duskendale and meet Randyll Tarly
  • Some other Frey will take Riverrun instead of Emmon
  • I don't think she will meet the Elder Brother
  • She will meet Stoneheart late season
  • More banter between Podrick and her

The Vale:

  • The move to the Gates of the Moon
  • Mya Stone and Myranda Royce (show seems steadfast in Gendry taking the role as Robert's bastard)

Iron Islands:

  • Aeron Damphair

Dorne:

  • Maybe the plot to crown Myrcella as Queen of the Seven Kingdoms
  • Drey, Garin, Spotted Sylvia will be cut (replaced by the Sand Snakes)

Oldtown:

  • The prolouge will not be included on the show
  • Alleras and Pate will be cut

Braavos:

  • The Kindly Man will either be preserved or replaced with Jaquen
  • Killing Dareon for forsaking his Night's Watch vows

Bran:

  • Jojen paste
  • Vision with the past Lords and Kings of Winterfell

I am just being realistic, given the shows tendacey to mess with book readers. Obviously people will disagree with me. I would like to hear people's thoughts on what will be cut of preserved. I've also probably left a few things out by mistake

So far Brans whole storyline and the Iron Islands storyline are confirmed to be cut. Also probably cut is Arianne, Quentyn, Penny, Jon Connington fAegon and so on. Most people have lost hope on Lady Stoneheart but I still have hope, knowing that it is potentially the biggest twist in the series to date, the showrunners would be foolish to talk about it and breath life into it if they want to keep it shocking and unexpected, I believe there being extremely coy about it for good reason .

I believe (hope) that Lady Stoneheart will show up. It's a crucial part of Brienne's arc and I don't see how it could be written around. Plus it would be an extremely shocking reveal for non - book readers.

As for the rest of the cut storylines, I see them more as a necessary evil when adapting such a dense series to television. ASOIAF has A LOT of fat that needs trimming and I feel that what D&D are doing is crafting a more focused narrative that is better suited for TV.

I feel this season will annoy me the most. I have been quite open to change and budget restrictions etc but killing the Dorne, faegon, manderly and stone heart plots is my line in the sand.

I think all those will happen except for Faegon, and I think Faegon happens next season.
