BuckShotBill
Hi all. Been reading some rather tame stuff lately, and now I'm feeling a bit bloodthirsty and wanted to get some recommendations on where I can go next. Looking for another twisted violent series, which still contains a decent story, examples include:ASOIAFPrince of Nothing/Aspect EmperorFirst Law TrilogyBook of the Fallen Series doesn't necessarily have to be epic fantasy, that's just where I'm most experienced, but it has to at some point make me shake my head and ask "what is wrong with you, you sick bastard?" Or maybe I'm the sick bastard for gobbling this stuff up without even using my hands. Thanks in advance
skins7778
Black Company- very dark, gritty military fantasy Legend of Drizzt series, Menzoberranzan is a pretty dark and twisted place
Spockydog
...but it has to at some point make me shake my head and ask "what is wrong with you, you sick bastard?" Southern Gods, by John Hornor Jacobs.
polishgenius
The Acts of Caine, by Matthew Woodring Stover. First book Heroes Die. Takeshi Kovacs series by Richard Morgan. First book Altered Carbon (this is SF, mind you). And if SF works for you, then some of Ian M Banks' stuff, in particular Against a Dark Background (a complete standalone) and Use of Weapons (part of the Culture sequence, but reading it as a standalone is fine). Anything by KJ Parker.

RedEyedGhost
Southern Gods, by John Hornor Jacobs. The Acts of Caine, by Matthew Woodring Stover. First book Heroes Die. Takeshi Kovacs series by Richard Morgan. First book Altered Carbon (this is SF, mind you). Kameron Hurley Gentlemen Bastards by Lynch I'll lend my recommendation to all of these (especially Kameron Hurley), and add: The Warlord Chronicles by Bernard Cornwell - amazing and bloody battles Wolfsangel by MD Lachlan (and the follow up novels) - Norse gods, vikings, werewolves, and pure awesomeness The Sad Tale of the Brothers Grossbart by Jesse Bullington - although the rest of the book doesn't live up to the absolutely disgusting first chapter The Last Werewolf by Glen Duncan - A violent, bloody, and brilliant trilogy Warren Hammond's KOP books - very similar in tone to Morgan's Takeshi Kovacs Trilogy Any (and all of) Charlie Huston's books
Skythe1
Blood Crazy by Simon Clark is twisted, as is Survivor by J.F Gonzales. Both horror rather than fantasy though.

mgambino
Andy Remic's novels are basically solidly written violence porn. Check out The Wolves (and it's follow up The Tower). Also, anything by David Gemmell... seriously, anything. His books aren't twisted, but they sure are violent. The Kingdoms of the Elves of the Reaches by Robert Stanek. Now in an exciting, illustrated omnibus edition!!! Seriously.
SkynJay
Andy Remic's novels are basically solidly written violence porn. Check out The Wolves (and it's follow up The Tower). I enjoyed The Iron Wolves quite a bit more than I should have. But Remic's Clockwork Vampire series should be avoided unless you love 'so bad its good.' Raksha 2014
I recommend my favorite work by Robert E. Howard (creator of Conan the Barbarian, though this book does not feature the character): The Sowers of the Thunder. It features stories about the Crusades, and they are vibrantly written, and do feature violence. My personal favorite is The Lion of Tiberias, which is heartbreaking but riveting with a bittersweet ending.
