STD's

I don't think there are lots of STDs in Westeros. There was no syphilis in Europe before the 15th century outbreak, and of course, no aids, but they still had to deal with gonorrhea and chlamydia (that they understood as a single disease).

Maybe the Westerosi don't even know there are STDs. Of course, they probably associate some diseases to sex, but we can't know exactly how the average Westerosi (I'm not talking about maesters) understands the relationship between sex and what we call STDs.

Yeah, they have various "poxes" at least some of which are sexually transmitted.

Doesn't Randyll Tarly have a prostitutes "parts" scrubbed with lye for infecting a soldier?

I'm sure that Littlefinger had his "ladies" checked by a maester once in awhile for STD's.

This is probably the show

Yeah, it's strange that Tyrion never worries about catching a pox from a whore or getting one pregnant.

It's possible that he pays extra for prostitutes that are known to be clean. I can see the higher-class whores having lower rates of infection than the cheaper ones. And to the second, moon tea is widely known to be a contraceptive and I'm sure that sex workers make use of it. And even if they didn't, why would Tyrion worry about getting her pregnant? Very few noble men seem to care about whether or not their sexual liaisons with lowborn women result in offspring. If they did, there would be a lot fewer bastards.

Literally, unless Vargo Hoat is the epitome of class and education (he's not), then the concept of STDs is a known one. There are two mentions of it I can think of, one being how Vargo Hoat had once "loved unwisely" and had Qyburn examine his women to ensure he didn't experience that sting again, and Jaime recalling how Merret Frey caught a pox from a camp follower. Still, yes, it isn't mentioned often, but then, Tyrion has all the gold in the world (at least compared to... 99.999% of the populace), he frequents the upper-range of prostitutes, who are probably more expensive for a reason. You also have things like maids being sold in regard to prostitution as well.

Taking into account that you probably can get Greyscale by shaking hands with a stranger and the Bloody Flux by drinking at a tavern (I doubt they disinfect the tableware very thoroughly), visiting a brothel is probably considered hardly more dangerous that any other activity.

When you visit a brothel you are risking to get some unpleasant diseases, but you can also get those doing almost anything else, and while the risk of getting Greyscale or Siphilis or whatever is greater in a brothel than drinking and eating in a tavern, the customers probably think the fun is worth the risk.
