Did Tywin see himself as protecting Tyrion from gold-diggers?

As we know, Tywin seemed to have an intense hatred for prostitutes. He made his father's mistress take a humiliating walk of shame, so "the world could see her for what she truly was", he probably seeing her as gold digger who seduced Tytos for his wealth and luxury. So, he had a bad experience with "whores" (whether the mistress was with Tytos purely because of his money or because she loved/liked him is unknown), a woman which in his mind humiliated his father and his family to everyone, because she took advantage of his weakness to take his gold.

Flash forward to the Tysha situation. After learning she is with Tyrion, he has her arrested, gang raped in front of Tyrion and makes Jaime tell Tyrion that she was only a whore, who was paid for her service. Then we have Tywin threaten Tyrion that if he brings Shae to KL, he'll have her killed. He really seems to want Tyrion to avoid having relationships with women, whores or not. Why? Is it because he reminded him of his father, and the shame he brought upon the family? I mean, lots of lords have extramarital affairs in Westeros.

OR, because Tywin thought that Tyrion, as a misshapen dwarf, could never be truly loved by a woman, and that they would only want him for his gold and status, like Tytos' mistress, faking their love for him (as it happened with Shae, after all)? And thus, in Tywin's twisted, cruel mind he is a "hero", who "saves" Tyrion from living in lies, and being deceived by women who only care for his wealth, like he saw his father have the same happen to him. What do you think? Did Tywin do what he did with Tysha and Shae because he truly thought he was teaching Tyrion a valuable lesson, and saving him from a fate similar to his father's, being deceived by what he saw as "gold digging whores"?

His concern isn't protecting him from people after the Lannister wealth.

It's to stop his son, the child of the head of one of the most powerful families in the realm marrying a commoner.

No doubt he suspects that they're after the wealth and prestige that courting Tyrion would bring but his main concern is protecting the standing of House Lannister. His brutal punishment of this is less of a lesson and more of a don't do it again or else.

Had the Tysha situation gotten out it would have been massively embarrassing, similarly Tywin has sent Tyrion to King's Landing to serve as hand in his place. Having him swan around with a whore at court would be embarrassing and reflect badly on Tywin and House Lannister.

Nah, he was just being a jerk.

The thing with his father's mistress wasn't just about her being a whore. Tytos let the woman wear his dead wife's jewels. That stung Tywin, who apparently loved his mother very much, and caused a minor scandal at the time amongst those who knew it happened. You don't just put the Lady of the House's jewels on some prostitute.

She wasn't a prostitue. She was simply lowborn. That's sin enough for Tywin.

Tywin could have simply shipped that woman away to Essos with enough money to never return in her life. That's a smarter way to protect everybody, even his own name. But nope.. he had to make a big deal: "EVERYBODY, LOOK HOW I TREAT THE PEOPLE THAT DISPLEASE ME AND INSULT THE LANNISTER! CAN YOU SEE? EH? EH?".

He didn't care about Tyrion, he didn't care about Cersei, he only cared about Jamie and the Lannister image.

He wasn't trying to protect Tyrion, he was trying to prevent Tyrion from having Lowborn children that night have disabilities. He was thinking how that would look in comparison to his family. He didn't want Tyrion sleeping around because he wanted to keep Tyrion out of the public eye.

Marrying him to Sansa was the same political move he pulled on Cersei, but worse. The marriage would only cause problems in the future for Tyrion after Tywin's death.

He tried to protect his own image and money.

He probably told himself that he was protecting Tyrion, and probably, even believed it, like he always does, making up excuses for his more horrifying actions.

Yep pretty much that.

Also I think because he could never love Tyrion his own son how could someone else love Tyrion and anyone who did had to be lying.

The reputation of his house is everything to Tywin. Tyrion cavorting is one thing, but marrying a commoner is quite another. There's no love for Tyrion, but maybe a very small begrudging respect for his mind and innate organising skills/ political abilities - I think the comment about a "certain low cunning" wasn't quite as backhanded a compliment as many saw. That and the Westerosi fear of kinslaying is probably what kept Tyrion alive and well fed for so long.

Except going to war for him and prior to that providing both money, servants and guards for Tyrion to live a life more or less as he pleased.

He didn't go to war for him though, he says the honour of the House was at stake; Tyrion himself knows Tywin doesn't give a damn that's it's him that's been captured, just that it looks like a stain on the Lannisters.

Let's look at the facts here. She was sleeping with a rich man and accepting gifts from him. As far as we know there was no real romantic relationship. She was his mistress, nothing more. If there was more, Tytos probably would have married her, given what we know of him (weak, willing to let lesser houses make him look like a fool, etc). In that culture, she was considered a prostitute because of the circumstances. I'm not saying it's right, but that's the way everyone would have looked at it. And a highborn lady, while less likely to end up in that kind of situation, would have been subjected to the same label.

Tywin would have objected to any woman (but particularly one not married to Tytos) wearing his mother's jewels. The lowborn status certainly did not help, but the jewels seem to be what put Tywin over the edge on this. I'm not saying I agree with him, or with what he did to the lady, but I can at least see his reasoning.

And yet it shows Tywin considered Tyrion to be a part of his family and House

Jamie loves Tyrion and possibly Penny

Jamie loved his little brother so much he let the woman Tyrion love get raped and only told him years later that she was not a whore. The Lannister's have a really twisted version of love.

Also Tywin never met Penny so to him no one could ever love Tyrion and the only reason Tyrion would ever even get a wife is because he was a Lannister.

He went to war to protect the name and prestige of House Lannister, not for Tyrion.

Not the same. It was more like Tywin protecting an asset rather than somebody he cared about.
