Davos glamour

Recommended Posts

So, on a reread a friend of mine found a line in Melisandre's chapter where she discusses glamours, "the strongest glamours are built on such things. A dead man's boots, a hank of hair, a bag of finger bones."

Does that last part make anyone think of Davos? Seems oddly specific, but didn't he lose his finger bones? Maybe something in the past? Any ideas?

Yes, it is obviously referring Davos' fingerbones. Yes, they are missing.

No, Melisandre couldn't get them, they are on the bottom of the Blackwater. No, it doesn't hint at "Davos" being glamored, we have his own PoV.

Seriously, why would a woman who spent years in the company of a guy famous for carrying his fingerbones in a bag around his neck, something that comes up in conversation repeatedly, jump to that example?

And yes, that topic does crop up every month or the like. Sometime ago, once per day.

I've wondered about this too. It does seem that a bag of finger bones being mentioned when using glamours coupled with the fact that Davos has recently lost a bag of finger bones cannot be mere coincidence.

I agree it doesn't make much sense for Mel to try to recover Davos' bones from the bottom of the Blackwater when she could have easily stolen them long ago.

However I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility that Davos' fingers could wash a shore at some point and be used in by another servant of the red god in a glamour.

I get what you are saying, and I am not sure I disagree. But theories have been built on less. Personally, I don't see how this could lead to anything since Davos lost his bones, and where would this be necessary. Just curious what the rest of the posters thought.

Hold on, I've been on here long enough to know where this is going... Davos is Rhaegar!!

No, Davos is Septa Lemore glamoured into a woman, oh yes, everything makes sense now.

No, he is not... He is in fact Ashara Dayne. True Story

Who is Septa Lemore.

The fingerbones thing is VERY specific. A lot of reader's wouldnt grasp Daeron's boots or the maester's beard on first read, but everyone can locate intellectually a bag of fingerbones. hell, there are enough constant reminders of davos reaching for them even after he loses them.

is it possible davos was specifically left on that isle after blackwater? as in Stannis took mel's side, but for loyalty, didnt kill him outright, and just left him to die alone?

-Davos gets pulled from the ocean, unconscious, guards bring him to stannis.

-Stannis sees Davos nearly dead, assumes he's dead, or outright takes mel's side and leaves him to die (not without ripping the bag from davos' neck) on the isle

-Stannis provides the fingerbones to mel

But even all that assumption, it's totally crackpot, and way to many what-if's in order to proceed with the progression.

Still, why does melisandre mention the fingerbones? Thats REALLY specific.

I thought Davis realized his bones were gone while he was still on the isle. I also didn't think he was unconscious when the ship took him from the isle.

Didn't they ask him which King he fought for before they would let him on the boat?

Maybe I'm not remembering right.

Why not? Why couldn't Melisandre be a mermaid. It all fits. Look, first, I'm sure that's why she fears Patchface because HE SAW HER when he was drowning. In fact, Melisandre SAVED HIM, and sung a sweet love song to him, wishing she could be part of his world. When she heard that Robert died, she realised that the only way to be close to PF it's to serve Stanis and tell him that she could make him the King. So, she went to R'hllor and he conceded her some time on Westeros in exchange for her voice. He cut her throat for that, that's why she covers it (she's telepathic: she puts her thoughts on your head and moves her lips so no one can notice, obviously), and the ruby is what keeps her with legs instead of a tail. That's why she doesn't eat or sleep, because FISHES don't sleep and there is no vegetarian algae based food in Westeros. But of course, as FISHES don't have memory either, she forgot she loved Patchface and now she's all after everybody else. She only remember that horny feeling.

duh

I think the glamour part is unlikely, unless Davos actually is dead and she's wighting him somehow but thats even more unlikely, and the idea of her having the bones in the first place is more unlikely still. However its an interesting line that made me perk up myself. Mel is still such an enigma, its hard to tell what her real plans are. Maybe she's had the bones since before the Blackwater waiting for some moment to use Stannis's trust of Davos to her own ends. Or it could just be a red herring, wouldn't be the first or the last.
