The rising sun was peeking over the rooftops behind his shoulder, so it was hard to make out the face beneath his hood.Why does Jaqen hide his face at first if he is disguised as someone else. It wouldn't matter who he was because he planned the whole time to take pate's face afterwords. We also know that the faceless man use actual faces to change themselves. Jaqen can only wear one face at a time because he is not in Bravos and does not have access to the room with all the faces. ...“Show me your face.”“As you wish.” The alchemist pulled his hood down.He was just a man, and his face was just a face. A young man’s face, ordinary, with full cheeks and the shadow of a beard. A scar showed faintly on his right cheek. He had a hooked nose, and a mat of dense black hair that curled tightly around his ears. It was not a face Pate recognized. “I do not know you.”“Nor I you.”“Who are you?”“A stranger. No one. Truly.” We know that when a faceless man finishes training they become no one. Arya often thinks of herself as no one, but reverts back to Arya often. If Jaqen was posing as someone else he would be someone not "no one." TO sum this up. The original Jaqen Arya meets is not the real face. THe alchemist is the real face of Jaqen because he has no reason to take on the identity of another person just to kill Pate. He gave himself a name while posing as Jaqen but never did again until he was Pate. Perhaps Jaqen is a recruiter for the Faceless Men, kinda like Yoren for the NW, and he recruits Arya. RumHam Posted July 23, 2014 Share Posted July 23, 2014 I doubt the Faceless Men have dedicated recruiters. With the Nights Watch you just want to recruit as many able bodied men as possible, so it makes sense to send a guy to all the population centers to get as many people as possible. The Faceless Men require a specific kind of person. I think it would be really inefficient to have one of their members wandering around doing nothing but looking for these types of people. Makes more sense to just tell all your assassins to keep an eye out for any talent. Also I'd bet most of their recruits come to them like the Waif did, or just walk in through the front door. Lady Blizzardborn Posted July 23, 2014 Share Posted July 23, 2014 I don't think they get to wear their own faces when they go on assignment. Too much danger someone might recognize or remember them. Imagine if Jaqen/Alchemist were to go to the Citadel again in a few years on another job. Someone might think he looks familiar.
