If Illyrio is a brightflame...

Not anymore, in terms of line of succession it's relation to the last king that matters, ergo Egg's line takes precedence over Brightflame descendants.

Sort of. If said King wasn't legitimate, all his heirs weren't legitimate either. But Egg was. That's why I mentioned the Council.

Wasn't Brightflame just Aerion's byname, not his house.

Same as Blackfyre.

Nevertheless, it doesn't matter. It's just a name to identify them, not their claime to the IT.

There isn't a House Brightflame so it can't really be compared to the Blackfyres.

If Aerion "Brightflame" Targaryen's line continued with true born heirs and Illyrio is of that line then would be Illyrio Targaryen. If Aegon is his true born son then he would be... Aegon Targaryen. If Serra is a Blackfyre then Aegon would be part Blackfyre part Targaryen which is to say... Targaryen?

Wouldn't that make Aegon a brightflae not blackfyre? And thinking like that put ahead of Dany be it brightflames are just a cadet trueborn targ line?

If you are referring to the theory of Illiryo as Aegon's father, If he is, then Aegon is a Mopatis, regardless of the lineage of his dad.

Wasn't Brightflame just Aerion's byname, not his house.

His line would be Targeryens.

yes

Yes. Calling his children Brightflames would be like calling Dany's children Stormborns.

Exactly

The difference is that when Damon was legitimized by his dad Aegon IV, he took the name of his sword and birthright and started his own house as Damon Blackfyre of house Blackfyre. Aerion was still Aerion Targaryen. His nickname was Brightflame
