xfatalxsnipez
Hello everybody! This is my first post here and I decided to make an account after picking up a line in the Game of Thrones TV show (Perhaps I filed this incorrectly then... :cool4: ) and I believe if D&D were to risk making very subtle hints about Tyrion's future development (Because they must know in case GRRM dies :crying: ) Anyway, to continue  In Episode 8 of Season 4 of Game of Thrones (The Mountain and The Viper), there was line that struck me oddly during the scene pre-trial by combat where Jaime and Tyrion are speaking about their cousin Orson Lannister and the different kinds of killing.. Tyrion utters a line."Matricide,Patricide,Infanticide,Suicide. There's no kind of killing that doesn't have it's own name." Now perhaps when they were writing this episode they just thought it sounded good OR there's a hidden meaning there perhaps? Matricide = Joanna Lannister Patricide = Tywin Lannister Infanticide = Tommen?/Myrcella?/ (far stretch) Dany? Suicide = Self explanatory So what do you think? I think I'm over examining like 99% of the theories on here. Do you think George RR Martin would give us a big "fuck you" and have Tyrion kill himself? Blue_Bard
IMO, that scene was horrible. First, it went right where they could have put the Tysha story. Second, there is a word for all those in Westeros: KINSLAYING! The show has completely failed to underline how severe the kinslaying taboo is in Westerosi culture, a driving feature of many plotlines. That scene was just the worst offender. To actually answer your question: No, I don't think one of the least-faithful scenes in the show can tell us anything about future events in the books. Dornish Vinegar
Welcome to the forums  First things first, you might get more hits on this topic in the show subforum, seeing as how it pertains to the show. As for the idea of Tyrion committing suicide, I don't think that'd be too unusual, especially seeing the state he was in in Dance. If shit gets worse for him as his story continues, we could see him killing himself. I don't think that the scene you're mentioning is really a hint, though. Tommen, Myrcella, Dany, etc. are all too old to be considered infanticide. And the show seems to be having a tough time really laying groundwork for things that will happen in the future with foresight, let alone subtle hints for things far down the road (the Rhoynar were only just now in the most recent season included along with the Andals and First Men in the titles of the King/Queen of Westeros after they realized that they had written a Martell into the script, for example). That's mostly just my opinion though. IIRC, I believe there's also a So Spake Martin out there somewhere where he says he will never do a suicide POV (or was that a sexual assault POV?), so there's that. Maybe this whole idea has already been shut down by GRRM.
Fire Eater
The only thing close to suicide I imagine Tyrion doing is self-sacrifice.
Pod The Impaler
Tyrion is definitely a candidate for suicide - because of the Tysha thing, I think he feels he deserves death. For a while there, after hearing that and killing Tywin, I think he even wanted to die.The thought is probably still lurking in the back of his mind, but I think the urge to finish what he started and destroy House Lannister still has primacy. If that is accomplished, or if it somehow all goes to hell, he may yet kill himself. Tyrion is still in a dodgy frame of mind, like he has nothing left to lose, and only revenge to look forward to. homogenius
I have a hunch Tyrion will be the hero, going on a suicide mission to save the kingdoms, on behalf of Jon Snow. His death is certain and will certainly be heart wrenching.
Equilibrium
I really don't think we had enough suicides in ASOIAF. Great omission of GRRM. POV would be great, if written right psychological interlude would be stellar. Don't judge me, with all rape and torture, what would few people offing themselves make worse. aryagonnakill#2
^ Equilibrium, we haven't seen many suicides first hand but we do hear about large scale suicides in the North during winter, so the story is not entirely devoid of it.

Good Guy Garlan
Welcome to the forum, OP!To be honest, I think you've given that scene way more thought than the writers themselves (yeah, I hated that monologue)And I think (though I'm not sure, so don't quote me on this) Martin said that by the end of aDwD Tyrion realizes he does want to live. Of course, things could go sour for him in tWoW, so who knows
Pod The Impaler
Arys Oakheart was pretty much a suicide.
Lady Blizzardborn
Tyrion isn't going to commit infanticide. Tommen and Myrcella are too old for that to apply to them anyway, and I think they'll both be dead before he could get to them (plus I don't think he'd ever really hurt them despite his threats to Cersei). He doesn't really strike me as the suicide type. Not that there's a type, but if there was one it wouldn't be him. And I don't credit matricide regardless of the societal view. abisal
“Even if the boy does live, he will be a cripple. Worse than a cripple. A grotesque. Give me a good clean death.”Tyrion replied with a shrug that accentuated the twist of his shoulders. “Speaking for the grotesques,” he said, “I beg to differ. Death is soterribly final, while life is full of possibilities.” I thought this bit from aGoT was interesting because it sets up Jaime becoming a cripple later on in a turn of cosmic forces. Interestingly, if Tyrion were to commit suicide, it'd set up both brothers radically changing their outlooks.
