Arianne Martell - Opinions?

Alayne's Shadow.

I appreciated her as a bit of wallpaper. She's interesting and well written from a craft point of view but I don't and didn't care for her at all. Maybe if she is around longer I might start to care, but I doubt it. Her chapters read to me like an unnecessary side note, much like a longish description of architecture, which is well done, but not the story I want to read.

I'm a big fan of the Dornish, so I like Arianne. I would like to learn more about her though - I feel we haven't had enough chapters from her yet to truly appreciate her. She seems to be a cross between Doran and Oberyn - not as unpredictable as the Sand Snakes but not as cautious as her father. She has a daring plan and plans it out carefully until it gets foiled. I'm interested to see what GRRM has planned for her, I think she'll play an important role. I think she'll make a good liege of Dorne.

I love her. In the beginning I wasn't that into Dorne, but after a while I really loved it and she was one of the reasons why I loved it I also really loved Quentyn as well. Arianne was also an heir in her own right, not because she had no brothers or because she was the wife of someone, she was the heir as the eldest, she is a window into another world. The Sand Snakes as fun as they are/or may become they're bastards and we've got plenty of those from all over. Arianne isn't someone who is replicated elsewhere in the story apart from name checked heiresses in Dorne, but even they aren't quite as high level as she is.

I also felt Arianne exposed a less clever and understanding side of Doran, if she'd known more of what was going on chances are she'd have been able to help him a lot more rather than fighting against him.

I LOVE Arianne. She is one of my top-five favorite characters. I appreciated her POVs, her failed coup, her relationship with her father (cannot wait to see how this develops into the next book!), and not least of all her insight into Dorne, a region that we were not privy to for so long. If Areo Hotah is our window into (amongst other things) Doran and his dealings, Arianne is our window into (amongst other things) Dorne as an independent place and culture.

I don't really hate her in the books, it's just that I like pretty much every other POV better (except the other Dornish people and the new Greyjoy POVs). For that reason I think it's the best decision to cut her for the TV show, which only has about has about 25 hours left to finish the whole epic story (if the episodes average around 50 minutes screen time).

Her stupid plan proves she's not really smart, it was very dangerous and impulsive from her part. She could be a good ruler if she stay far away from Westeros politics. I just hope after Doran's death, she'll become more cautious and more mature. Besides, she's a hottie and seems like a nice person.

I hope GRRM decides to be the troll we all believe he is and makes her Queen of Westeros, Essos and Ulthos.

It wasn't her plan but Oberyn. Her mistake was trying to rush it alone with her friends and taking it as some kind of picnic day.

Oberyn's plan ????
You got to admit her plan was very stupid and suicidal, this plan was worse than Balon's plan. She's very lucky Doran was still alive to save her from her failure. Trying to crown Myrcella was foolish and showed a lack of knowledge of Westeros politics (Cognatic primogeniture doesn't apply to the Iron Throne). And who in his right mind would have tried to overthrew her father without good cause, a reigning monarch who rules for several decades, even Roose was cautious enough to wait a good opportunity to strike against Robb. Ariane had no ground and no support to formed a coup against Doran, she was very delusional. I agree, she's hot and all that but not very clever.

It is Oberyn's plan. He told Tyrion about it. The idea was apparently his at first.

She was foolish and impulsive, but what I liked about her is that not only did she have the potential to be better and learn from her mistakes, but that she actually seemed to be improving. She started to trust het father more, she kept his secrets, she didn't make braindead choices after Doran explained his plans to her.

If she turns out to ACTUALLY be cut, I won't be happy.

I think, it will be very interesting, how the cut of both Quentyn and Arianne will influence the storyline. Another two characters I have nor heard any casting news of are Young Griff/fAegon and Griff/Connington.

A poster on another thread suggested, that they probably cut Arianne, because her story was linked to fAegon and was cut, too. But if fAegon is cut there are two big questions:

-what will Tyrion Lannister do during all of season 5 and probably some of season 6, as GRRM indicated, that he and Dany would only meet later in WoW?

-who will Dorne be loyal to, when they on one hand have not forgotten the atrocities committed by the Lannisters, but on the other stand to gain a lot with a marriage between Trystane and Myrcella and do not have other marriage prospects, because Quentyn and Arianne have been cut?
