Timelines and Ages

Hey guys,

So I am about 15% of the way through Feast, it's the first time I am reading ahead of the show, totally loving it. Perhaps that's why as of yet I haven't felt the slump others have had after Sword. Anyway......

Bit of a lazy question,

I am trying to piece together how many years pass between books/major events etc. Ages of younger characters at those moments. I am always intrigued because now and again, GRRM throws in one of there ages. How much time passes over the whole saga? Am i right that most of Dance runs in the same time frame as Feast and the end draws the 2 together? I am trying to read Feast mostly spoiler free, I know a few things that are to come, mostly by accidentally reading articles that contained no spoiler warnings.

Any help on the timelines, ages of characters etc would be great.

Cheers

I think so far it has only been about 2 years, 1 and 1/2 at least. Arya started GOT at 9 and now she's 11 or about to turn 11. I think by the end of Dance it would be safe to say 2 years has passed.

About half of Dance runs with the same time frame as Feast then they both come together.

I've looked everywhere for their ages and I couldn't find anything, so this is just my guess. I think it's accurate, but I'm not 100% sure.

Ok I found something that might actually help! So I found a website that says the final chapters of ASOS, most of AFFC and all of ADWD takes place in 300AC. Arya was born in 289 and that makes her 11.

http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Years_after_Aegon%27s_Conquest#Year_300_After_the_Conquest

It's all on that website and it's pretty helpful. It has everyone's births, even people I don't remember and events all on a timeline.

The prologue of Game of Thrones takes place in 297AC

Most of Game of Thrones takes place in 298AC

Where the year turns from 298AC into 299AC exactly cannot be determined, but when Catelyn and Robb Stark reach the Twins, the year 299AC has already begun.

Entire Clash takes place in 299AC, and the first part of Storm as well, right up until Joffrey's wedding, which takes place on the first day of 300AC (as is stated in the books).

The rest of Storm takes place in 300AC

Feast for Crows takes place in 300AC entirely, with the exception of the first Ironborn chapter, which still takes place in 299AC.

Dance with Dragons takes place in 300AC completely, and ends somewhere in the 6th or 7th month, as Roslin Frey becomes pregnant in the 12th month of 299AC, and has yet to give birth at the end of Dance (showing that no 9 months have passed).

Feast and Dance occur mostly simultaneously, but Dance continues a bit longer into the year (as can be seen by Feast POV characters having one or two chapters towards the end of Dance.)

Check here as well

I'm re-reading Feast and never noticed until I read Aeron's first chapter that the chapter takes place during Storm. If I remember we found out Balon died right before the Red Wedding, so the first ironborn POV surely takes place before or during the latter chunk of Storm. Since that's the case, I assume the prologue in Feast takes place around that time as well? Then Areo's first chapter is where things become current again after everything in Storm.
