Why would Azor Ahai need to be someone we give a shit about?

Gee, I don't know. I guess you're right. We should totally be invested in some lame tertiary character and watch as he becomes the prophesied hero of heroes who fights the Others.

...or maybe that would suck.

The "SSM" is called "A Song of Ice and Fire". The books themselves tell us what AAR is.

You're right

"Prophecy is like a treacherous woman. She takes your member in her mouth, and you moan with the pleasure of it and think, how sweet, how fine, how good this is . . . and then her teeth snap shut and your moans turn to screams. That is the nature of prophecy, said Gorghan. Prophecy will bite your prick off every time.”

“Prophecy is like a half-trained mule. It looks as though it might be useful, but the moment you trust in it, it kicks you in the head."

Azor Ahai reveal is gonna bite yer cock off and kick you in the head.

I'm sorry for posting this here because this thread is about Loras Tyrell but Dany being Azor Ahais more compelling. I think she is underrated when it comes to guessing who Azor Ahai is. I'm in the middle of re-reading, actually I just started the first book again. I finished a Dance of Dragons about a year ago so I'm a little bit rusty.

Anyway Dany can be Azor Ahai. She fits the profile. She became Khaleesi by the chance that her brother sold her to Drogo. She loved him she killed him and from the salt of her tears, the ashes, and fire her dragons were born and she was re-born a new woman. Her dragons are "light bringer", smithed in the fiery ashes of her deceased husband. They gave her the courage to build an army and start freeing people from bondage. They call her mesa and she is bringing light to their world. Dany gave up everything to become a selfless human being intent on saving people from darkness. She could have taken all the ships from Astapor and sailed to Westeros to take the 7 kingdoms but she didn't because she realized her real mission was to bring light to people's lives, but it was not as easy a she thought it would be. She ends up in a field of grass and is found by a Dothraki hoard.

There isn't much proof for this and what I am about to say is completely speculative.

Dany is found by a Dothraki hoard made up of those who once followed Khal Drogo. They recognize her and take her back to vaes Dothrak where she lives out a miserable life. (stupid ending) Or they hear of her victories and come to break the siege and follow Daenerys Stormborn of house Targaryen, the first of her name, the unburnt, Queen of Meereen, Queen of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains and Mother of Dragons. Basically they thought she was a bad ass and decided to join her "Khalasar".

Dany was a red herring the entire time and I don't believe GRRM would do this just so Loras could be Azor Ahai. I think he was trying to draw our attention away from the other main characters.

Alternatively anyone can be Azor Ahai. Basically he is a messianic figure, but the criterium is that one must give up their entire life in devotion to bringing good to the world. Dany didn't do this because she could not let go of her lust for Dhario Naharris (at this point I'm just throwing random 'h's into the names) which is a way of dealing with the grief she still bears from losing her husband.

What i meant was: why loras? There are no hints in that direction. Arya, cersei, quyburn or just any random character would be just as good.

Because that's how interesting stories work :P

While I very much doubt Loras Tyrell is AA. I will say that whether he's 'important' right now shouldn't matter. The situation reminds me of an anime I used to watch, in the last season there was a key figure called the 'counteractor' which could repel the powers of the otherwise omnipotent gods in the series. The 'counteractor' ended up being in the form of one of the character's mother, a character that was normally flighty and who appeared as a minor figure in one episode the prior season and some minor appearances in a spinoff series. However, narratively it worked and also made for a great twist!
