Talisa's slavery family

The Broke Howard Hughes

Recommended Posts

Robb's queen Talisa Stark tells Robb about her family back in the slave cities. Most of Westeros seems not to know she's a royal albeit from afar, or about her family's roots in slavery. Upon learning of her death, especially considering she'd just sent word she was with child, does anyone feel they'll show up to exact justice on the Freys? With the exclusion of Lady Stoneheart somebody has to pick up this storyline. In the novels I think it'll be Jeyne's dead (not really dead) brother. In the show Talisa mentioned a brother who will surely want justice for his sister once word reaches her family of her fate. I can see them showing up in a future season to murder the Freys in revenge or worse enslaving them all ridding Westeros of them and wrapping up their storyline. Neatly and with very little need for more screentime. Thoughts?

She is from Voltanis, extremely far away far away from the Twins.

My sister lives in Australia and I'm in Ireland, if Gods forbid anything like that happened and I was aware of the Freys' involvement I'd be on the first plane I could get.

Family is family, ends of the earth to protect/avenge them. (From an In-ASOIAF perspective)

To answer OP, it is possible although with the limited amount of hours left for the show, I would see vengeance from a Westerosi avenger/s.

But do you realize how much airfare costs in Westeros?

hahaha. I have to say, I think the OP has given more thought to the idea of Talisa's family and the issues it may have with slavery than the show will going forward. I'd guess it could be the same with her family and the Freys and vengeance. It's a new day, the shock of the Red Wedding is a long time ago, at this point we'll be lucky to get Lady Stoneheart. I wouldn't be surprised if Talisa's family is never mentioned or heard from again.

If Talisa's family is ever mentioned again, it will be in Dany's storyline, and just as an easter egg, no more than a passing mention for continuity's sake if Volantis declares against Meereen as it did in the books.

But most likely Talisa's family (or her whole existence actually) will never be heard of again.

No.

Game of Thrones is based on A Song of Ice and Fire. Or at least it's supposed to be.

So what? They've made greater changes than that.

At least this would be closing a plot. Talisa's family exists, they should do something to avenge her death.

But well, I'm sure they will not talk about her or anything related ever. They won't bother doing that and people hate Talisa because she is a "invented" character. Oh, well.

I agree.

Jeyne W was likely re-imagined as Talisa, an essosi noble, in order to avoid casting more characters and extending the romance storyline.

Talisa being a nurse, means that it is a good excuse for her to meet Robb, instead of Robb taking her castle-which would have costed more.

Talisa being from Essos, means that she is neither an ally nor a foe.

I doubt that her family shall appear, I even doubt that we will see Volantis in the tv series.

  • 3 weeks later...

This has been bugging me since the Season 3 finale. If Talisa was a Lannister spy, wouldn't we know by now? All the Tywin Lannister laundry got aired in S5, and successfully ensnaring Robb Stark in a honeypot sting would have been an odd thing for him to not mention to Cersei, Jaime or Tyrion. I for one loved Talisa and thought she was a fantastic replacement for Jeyne. :smug:

Secondly, a few sticking points.

1. Talisa was a Volantene noblewoman.

2. Her last name in the show is Maegyr. The Triarch (?) of Volantis: Maegyr. The writers wouldn't have just randomly come up with that name, they would have had to go relatively deep into the books for it. Talisa is from one of the most powerful families in Volantis.

3. One of her last scenes had her writing letters to her mother. Her family now presumably knows that she married a rebel king, was pregnant with his child, and was brutally murdered in the most grievous breach of the laws of gods and men in recent history. Wouldn't they be inclined to take some sort of action against the perpetrators?

4. Volantis has featured prominently in the Essosi theater in the novels. We have seen it firsthand, spent time with Volantene characters, there is a potential slave revolt brewing there, and they have just launched a fleet against Daenerys. They are one of the heavyweights in this conflict, and it would be so odd for D&D, after all the time we invested in Robb & Talisa AND the increasing difficulties of Daenerys' campaign, to let that slip away without further ado. I just don't know what.

Spoiler

I think there is a slim possibility that the show runners bring some of Talisa's family in. With so many characters in Essos at the end of book 5, there are opportunities for Essos characters to be amalgamated into an invented show character related to Talisa.

And the show is bringing Tyrion to Volantis rather than Pentos in sesaon 5, which is an interesting change.

I think Talisa's family will the one who provide the golden compagny and Aegon with ships and elephants, maybe some troops.

The Enemy of my Enemy is my Friend.

The price of there help will be simple: kill all Frey's and Lannisters, something Aegon already planned on doing.

This gives the viewer a way to instantly cheer for the new team: the avengers of the Starks! Aegon gets his ships, and goes on his marry way. just 3 season left in total, so no need for Aegon to slumber around in Essos: Meet Tyrion in Volantis, maybe with mr Cheesemonger. golden compagny already on his side. Meagyr clan sends the offer, Aegon accepts, and off to Cape Wrath.

Think Varys may the one negotiating the help.

I think something like that is possible. One of the things the showrunners have been trying to do is to tie the storylines as close as possible, instead of looking almost as if they were happening in different shows. Thus, we have email between King's Landing and Mereen, Bran and Jon almost meet-up, Sansa and Arya almost meet-up, Arya and Brienne meeting, etc.

Involving Robb's wife's family into the plot would make it look like it's a whole interconnected world
