When the red star bleeds and the darkness gathers, Azor Ahai shall be born again amidst smoke and salt to wake dragons out of stone.

There isn't really any doubt that this is about Dany. She also hatched the Dragons from (presumably) petrified eggs. The only other candidate would be Jon, but he was neither born amidst smoke and salt nor did he wake dragons.

Hahaha go check out heresy if you think there "isn't really any doubt," its like one of the most hotly debated sub plots in the series.

For what its worth, its kind of hard to imagine that anyone ISN'T born amidst smoke and salt. I mean, theres no electricity, fires everywhere, maybe the salt part is harder but even so

Also, none of the potential AA candidates was actually born under a bleeding star as far as i can tell, so the specific words of the prophecy should be take with...um...a grain of salt

When we last see him in a POV he's getting torched by two dragons. When we next catch up with Quenty he has no face, no genitals, no eyeballs, and is pretty much just a burned skeleton. It explicitly states that he takes three days to die. Of course he's dead. I don't think even Melisandre could revive that, even if she somehow was to make it to Meereen before the rest of his corpse decomposes. Quenters dead.

Never say "without a doubt" when it comes to ASOIAF and prophecies... ;)

I think there's a good shot he's alive and reasonable evidence to support it.

This is called the Dornish Master Plan by Preston Jacobs it has four parts each about 10 minutes long.

It discusses Marwyn, the Martells, Dorne, Varys, Aegon, Illyrio, House Pal, and Quentyn. It's pretty interesting and discusses things most people don't notice on their first read. It's probably not all true, but worth watching and discussing

Part 3 lays out a good argument for Quentyn being alive.

Part 1:

Part 2:

Part 3:

Part 4:

Of all of Preston Jacobs reasons I would highlight:

1.)Why was Drink standing over Quentyn with a sword?

2.)How did the Windblown find their way out? Quentyn was the one who knew the way in.

3.)How do you recognize a man with his face burnt off?

The theory is essentially that Drink and Arch pulled off a switcheroo (it is cliche of GRRM by now but so is killing)

This all kind of assumes that if he did succeed in stealing a dragon, that there is some motivation behind faking his death.

It seems like Martin puts a lot of effort developing Quentyn and his quest. Why do that, if your just going to kill him so quickly? If he is in fact dead, then there should be some reveal in the next two books that tie his failed quest into a major plot point.

[Lastly, I know the show is a separate entity, BUT a significant piece of evidence against this theory;

Is that Dan and Dave currently appear to have not casted "Quentyn" and HBO acknowledging Trystane as heir to Dorne. This IMO subtly supports him being dead in ADWD. My reasoning is that if he really is dead in the books he's much less significant to the whole series and easily omitted from the expensive show.

Yeah they could merge the two brothers and send "show Trystane" to Mereen to propose to Dany and then maybe try to steal a dragon.... and then maybe die...or not etc. In which case it's not really evidence one way or another and we're right back where we started from.]
