I ask because the Hound won the Hand's tournament, and no mention was ever made of him getting paid or of what he did (if anything) with the cash. Any insight by the folks on this forum? Just seems like a large amount of money for a guy who's not technically even a knight (And so, shouldn't have been allowed in the tournament to begin with...). Later when the Hound came back to get his money, somebody (don't recall who) mentioned that the reason he had so much was because he won the Hand's tourney. So it's gotta be in a bank somewhere, untouchable, right? He gave up any lands he had, but at the same time, isn't part of the White Cloaks either, so he could have been amassing it, but...if you're The Hound, what do you do with your earnings? For that amount, couldn't he open up a merc company across the sea, or buy some boats and live off the trade? Or...basically purchase a holdfast from a minor lord? It's just such an odd situation, where he seems like he's actually bound by duty, and at least according to the laws and customs of his society, a knight, despite having such contempt for the knighthood due to his brother being an asshat. Stranger is a warhorse, not a dray horse. Sure he's big and strong, but hauling around Sandor and 50-100 pounds of equipment is probably about all he can do and still maintain any endurance. Whoever has the Iron Throne has no hope of repaying the Iron Bank. Robert fucked up bad. Yeah, which made me think that Littlefinger was actually working for the Iron Bank, in hopes of bankrupting the whole of the realm. But to what ends?
