Tywin and Tyrion's discussion of Elia

I was reading the Stark bias thread and a particular post brought to mind a disturbing revelation about Tywin, i was going to quote it there but then i realized the thread was nearly 700 posts deep and wasnt interested in diving into that, and besides the realization shocked me so much that i think it deserves its own thread, so here it is.

Tyrion is discussing the sack of Kings Landing with his father, Tywin says Elia's murder was "sheer folly", Tyrion then asks why the mountain killed her, to which Tywin replies,

"Because I did not tell him to spare her. I doubt I mentioned her at all. I had more pressing concerns...The rape...even you will not accuse me of giving that command, I would hope."

Even you. Even your son whos wife you had commanded the guards of your garrison to rape because she dared to marry him. Even he would not accuse you of commanding the rape of the woman who dared to marry the man you meant for your daughter to marry?

What. The. Fuck. Tywin.

A man like Tywin Lannister, who has been called a "great commander and politician" by his defenders, would NEVER simply forget to keep such an important person like a princess as a hostage.

As much, I give him the benefit of the doubt and I say that he ordered the Mountain to kill her, which it was going to be brutal either way.

Tywin is a pragmatist, if nothing else.

He decided that Rhaenys and Aegon had to die in order to solidify Robert's hold on the throne (Robert would thus owe the Lannisters a favour). But Elia? Killing her only makes Dorne even more angry, and has no advantage at all to either Tywin or Robert.

It kinda does. It sends the message that he has a better Queen: Cersei.

Had Elia lived, some could have called her "the real Queen/Princess" or something like that.

Tywin is a petty assf*ck. He got beat at his own game so he has an innocent women brutally raped and murdered, his death was far to easy for him. He should have suffered a long and painful death.

Tyrion should have used a whip. Driving Tywin into a table where he spills a flaggon of wine on himsef. Then into a sconce that sets him on fire. Then finally driving him out the window where he'd bound down along the rocky cliff and into the sea. Of course, there'd have been no body for the funeral. No smelly smirking corpse for Jaime to hold vigil over. For Tommen to gag upon. I think he was smirking as if to say, " I got off light for my crimes. You, my children won't be getting off so easy."

Notice Varys when Tyrion asked him where the ladder went. He was like: to the chamber of the hand, but you shouldn't got there. Then Tyrion asked him how high up. Then Varys was like three hundred rungs, at the top is a tunnel to the left Then Tyrion asked him how far. Varys was like sixty feet third door, but we really should go. If Varys didn't really want Tyrion to kill Tywin, he should not have given him any information.

Can you specify what exactly the point of this thread is? Is it a discussion of "did / didn't Tywin want Elia to die and why / why not?", or a thread about how much people don't like Tywin? Because both at the same time is not going to work out.

charles dance looks really old and harmless without a beard, there you go

Oh and i'm really torn on the Elia thing. He had motive and we know he's capable of ordering and lying about it, but why would he deny it to Tyrion? He's kept Tysha's true identity hidden for a reason but everybody knows about Elia and The Mountain. It's an open secret. But that he just forgot to consider Elia while ordering her children's death? That's very unlikely.
