Arianne and her betrayal?

It's unclear, but Darkstar is the most popular guess around here. She put her trust in some chatty-cathys though, that's for sure.

There's also the possibility that Doran just figured out what she was up to on his own; Tyene already approached him with the Queenmaker concept, and he knows how close they are :dunno:

Who is to say there is only one talker? I like to think Slyva Santagar talked at least. Winds spoilers:

Estermont, where she was sent as "punishment" has fallen to Aegon, amd JonCon.demanded the highborn hostages be sent to him. So Arriane seems set to run into her, and I think this might give.us some insight into who blabbed.

One of the less likely options, but still interesting, is Arys Oakeart. He may have wanted to redeem himself for.breaking his vows, amd because he couldn't live with betraying Arriane decided to die by charging Areo. Its an out there guess, but possible

Darkstar is a popular choice indeed (see! he can be popular... just not in the way he wishes). He was there, he's a (largely) unknown quantity in general, and he does attack Myrcella right at the time when Doran's troops are at the scene.

We don't know nearly enough about his allegiances, beliefs or long-term goals to truly guess what his motivations are - perhaps he just saw a chance to curry favor with Doran, though that seems rather silly since Doran is old, Darkstar is young and Arianne is likely to become his liege lord (lady) eventually.

I thought it was Myrcella's handmaiden. Seems like the most obvious answer.

But would she be aware of the specifics? Where Arriane was heading etc? I'm not sure that Myrcella and Arys even knew their route

At first I was thinking about a single culprit (namely Spotted Sylva), but some time ago these forums suggested me that it was most likely a combination of all her friend.

There's a precedent in Ramsay, Roose Bolton and all the Bastard's Boys.

In that case the 'punishments' Arianne's friends get are actually new tasks as spies.

Arys as a culprit doesn't make any sense on many levels, and if Darkstar was the betrayer he wouldn't have harmed Myrcella, since Doran himself thought it foolish.

Arianne was betrayed by Darkstar. He was Doran's spy, ordered to keep an eye on Arianne. But Darkstar went rogue and tried to kill Myrcella, so that he could win infamy by starting a war.

Looking for a friend who was secretly an enemy, that one mistake that meant all efforts were turned to disaster, buys into Arianne's skewed viewpoint.

It wasn't a conspiracy directed against her and her desires, it was amateur incompetence. Doran explained it, when he explained why he hadn't brought Arianne in on the family business up until this point.

(Although Darkstar does neatly sail through her "who have I had a sexual relationship with" screening criteria for implied conspiratorial trustworthiness.)
