Westeros
<p>Once again, James Hibberd <a href="http://insidetv.ew.com/2014/08/27/mark-gatiss-season-5-thrones/">has the scoop</a>, revealing that Mark Gatiss—writer and actor on <em>Sherlock</em>, among many other pop favorite shows—will be returning on season 5 to reprise his role as Tycho Nestoris of the Iron Bank of Braavos. Last seen negotiating with Stannis Baratheon over the Bank’s financial support, his appearance in season 5 certainly heralds more use of Braavos and the Iron Bank for this season.</p><p>Hibberd also adds that Gatiss will be filming in Croatia next week.</p>Visit the Site! boojam
This could be echo-back from WoW and Dream. I have had this hunch , due to George's hints about the Iron Bank that it will play a bigger role in the future. Even if it's just material from Feast and Dance seems the IB may have a better grasp of the global events in both Westeros and Essos and will make a move as major player in the story somewhere. It's always been intriguing that the IB and FM are almost co-located and also that Arya is in Braavos.
Ser Frasier of House Crane
I wonder if part of Arya's training will be to observe what goes on at the Iron Bank, similar to what happened with her and Tywin at Harrenhal in Season 2.
Beric175
yeah, they need Cersei and Stannis to sneer at him next year.
A Bong of Ice and Fire
This could be echo-back from WoW and Dream. I've always thought that one of the main roles of the Faceless Men is to be the enforcers for the Iron Bank. The Sealord-Iron Bank-Faceless Men team is probably much more powerful and influential in the world than has been revealed. After all, in the real world the bankers rule from the shadows and have their soldiers and assassins. Why should the world of ice and fire be any different? ivosan
In GOT the power and influence of the Iron Bank is stressed enough. Also, in GOT (but not in the books) Tywin mentioned that the Lannister's gold mines are dry. IMHO, they were paving the way to give the Iron Bank a very important role in the chaos ensuing Tywin's death.
Jslay427
Iron Throne. Iron Bank. That isn't a mere coincidence.
Ghosts Lunch
Good to see We can see through history with the Rothschilds etc in particular the Banking and Finance can have as much of an impact on the end outcome as what happens on the battlefield. Eg Financial History or the World covers this, eg the Dutch could resist Spain through developing the Stockmarket etc Obviously with the slightly ludicrous "Mines have run dry" line they are building up to it. That is simply absurd but being TV I guess they have to be drastic to drive home the point in a visual medium, eg we all know Olenna is the brains of the Tyrells but they turned Mace Tyrell from someone who is slightly out of his depth into a total buffoon Goes well with the High Sparrow, as we can also see through history that religion or religious inspired movements can have as much impact on social identity/influence on society and outcomes of wars, think of the 30 years war in particular This sort of thing might be hard to understand in the modern era when most in the west tend to identify primarily with their national idenitity and systems of civil government but it's good they are covering these angles. The third institution is the Maesters, who are obviously a bastion of Science and control through science as opposed to magic/religion but I doubt the show will go into that It will be interesting to see how these compete/interact in the books/show, obviously Iron Bank is from Braavos and presumably holds similar anti-slavery etc views as the Faceless Men given they will originate from the same refugees
