The Kevin Smith Fan Club Thread

For those of us who love Kevin Smith, enjoy the fact that he will never be "that Hollywood guy" and also enjoy the fact that he's never going to give a fuck if we think he ever turns into "that Hollywood guy."

I'm more excited for Tusk than I am Marvel's The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron or Christopher Nolan's Interstellar. Because I listened to Episode 259 of the Smodcast podcast and because I voted #WalrusYes multiple times and I actually helped get this movie made. I didn't help get Avengers 2 made, or Interstellar made, or anything else that ends up getting made this year, but I helped this insanely stupid movie get made, and that's awesome:

I can't wait for Tusk, the rest of the True North trilogy and Clerks 3. Clerks is probably my favorite comedy of all time. I love everything he's ever made with only one real exception (Jersey Girl. I don't even count Cop Out since he didn't write it.) I'm also a huge Smodcast fan. Emo Kev has to be my favorite thing they ever talked about. That was easily the hardest I've ever laughed at a podcast.

Emo Kev changed my life, and I'm not even exaggerating. Those 4 (Or 3, I can't remember) podcasts of listening to a young and lost soul trying to find itself reminded me SO much of me and my friends during those same years (though sadly we were all about 5 years older at the time than Emo Kev was, but I guess better late than never?)

There is a lot of hate on the internet for Kevin Smith, and I assume that most of it just stems from that terrible and cynical and dark stupid place that everyone is capable of and manifests itself behind anonymity and jealousy, but I challenge anyone to find someone who is "in the business" that is more passionate or more emotional or more inspirational than Kevin Smith.

He literally begs people to send him movie scripts and test-footage because he wants to help young indie film makers get their movies made, the same way he was helped by the Weinsteins. He solo-produced The Dirties which is a disturbingly fantastic film, along with a bunch of others that I have sadly not seen. It's a shame that he ended his Smovie Makers podcast, because that was great, especially his interview with Rian Johnson (Brick, Looper, multiple episodes of Breaking Bad, and the upcoming Star Wars Episode 8 and 9) that he carried over from Smodcast.

Emo Kev is better than all of us...but Primo Kev...he is a god in man's form.

Wait, Clerks 3?

I thought he was finished with the New Jersey "Trilogy" universe?

Nope, Clerks 3 already has a finished script and has a production date of "Early 2015." The Weinstein Company passed on the Clerks 3 script, which gave full control of the distribution rights to Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier (A move that a lot of people speculate was done on purpose). They will distribute Clerks 3 entirely by themselves, much like they did with Red State.

I think the Weinsteins are actually distributing it for him they just told him they couldn't fund it. That's what he said on a recent Smodcast anyway, but that might have changed since then.

Also The Dirties was incredible. I can't wait for that kid's next movie.

Sort of like-dislike thing going on for Kevin Smith. Really love some of his movies, but really don't like his treatment of female characters most of the time or his views on women in general which is annoying because I really love some of his films. :P

I miss the View Askewniverse, so I'm very excited for Clerks 3... But honestly I don't think his other films are very good. Jersey Girl and Zack and Miri doesn't work as a rom/com movie and Red State is just plain weird. I mean, the structure and the seriousness doesn't work for me, and I think that Tusk is going to be very similar to Red State.

But I do love his passion and his own kind of filmmaking, I think KS is a very inspirational guy.

Dogma is probably my favourite Kevin Smith movie, though I love both Clerks too. When I first watched Jay and SIlent Bob Strikes back I thought it was the funniest movie ever made(I was like 12) Don't really know anything about the guy outside of his films.

I don't know, I just can't handle Hayley Joel Osmont as an adult.......is freaking me out more than the movie.

I love, love, love Dogma, Chasing Amy, and Jay & Silent Bob. I've watched those numerous times and even have the screen plays for them. Haven't loved his other movies as much but have seen them all.

I used to read his blog when he had one but once he switched to other mediums I stopped following.

Was very sad to learn earlier this month that the Kevin Smith/ Ben Affleck bromance was over :( They were so entertaining together.

No you're right, I misunderstood what he was saying in that podcast.

What happened?

Nobody really knows except them I guess. All the tabloids were talking about Kevin Smith blaming it on Jennifer Garner, but he's said on Smodcast lately that he wasn't serious about that (apparently Garner threatening to kick his ass is a joke he's been telling for years) and that he and Affleck hadn't been close for a long time.

Jay and Silent Bob Strike back was one of the most quotable movies for all of my friends when we were in graduate school. Wasn't a huge fan of Chasing Amy or Clerks 2, but loved all the other View Askiewniverse movies. Dogma is one of those movies I am hesitant to rec to other people (stay away from religion and politics you know...) but is a personal favorite.

Also loved the cameos from Hamill and Fisher in Jay and Silent Bob.
