Stop apologising for Renly

Salafi Stannis

Recommended Posts

Too many people on these threads are apologising for and finding excuses for Renly's shitty behaviour. He tried to usurp the throne from three children whom he believed to be Roberts. Now let me stop you right there, you might say "Yeah well Joffrey would have become Mad King II so it's alright", lets pretend for a second it's okay to depose someone who is (to the best of your knowledge) the rightful heir because they may or may not become s shitty ruler, what about Tommen and Myrcella? From what we know Tommen's a sweet little boy and Myrcella seems like she would be a very capapble ruler, what's his excuse for tryin to get rid of them? And even if he did know the truth about them, than Stannis is still the rightful king. Renly would have killed Stannis to get the throne, his older brother and rightful king, he would have killed him to become king, just because he thinks Stannis would be a kind of crappy ruler. How can you find that okay? And then people give Stannis shit for killing Renly even though Renly would have done the same.

Considering the royal killed his brother the king and two Hands, I think Renly had ample cause to rebel.

Besides rebelling was his third choice, after replacing Cersei and seizing Joff. His main aim was to neutralise the Lannisters.

“Yes,” piped a fangirl's voice, thin and high.

It belonged to the half-grown poster with the funny avatar and the witty title. “They killed Ser Robar and Ser Cuy and King Renly,” she said. “He was our king! He was brave and good,

and the Red Witch murdered him. If Ser Loras will avenge him, we should join Ser Loras.”

He didn't know Jon Arryn and Robert were killed by the Lannisters, and even if he did, that's still not cause for not supporting Tommen, who he believed was the rightful king, or Stannis, who is the rightful king.

Stannis declared after Renly. He had months of time to prepare and take Renly into his confidence but he chose to flee and hide on DS.

Which still means that Renly was going to depose his nephew, kill his mother, and crown himslef king. Right of conquest is legitimate in Westeros, but only retroactively. At the time, he was still a traitor and a rebel to who he thought were his kin, and if he was going to kill his nephews' mother, what do you think he was going to do with the twincest trio, who should have a better claim than him "while they live"?

Renly was legitimately threatened by the ever-growing power of the Lannisters. Robert made him the Lord of Storm's End but the next king (Joffrey) could have easily taken it back. That is why he sought the power of the Tyrells to end the Lannister regime. Renly was the Lord of Storm's End and he didnot owe any fealty to Stannis. He rebelled against Robert's "children" with the backing of Highgarden. Stannis would never get any support from them, was hiding on his rock and Renly had to act fast to save his own neck. He could have won the war had Stannis not slain him.

No one cared when Egg jumped a head of his elder brothers' children after his father died because of their fathers' nature.

Nor did Robert, Jon, Ned, or Hoster care about skipping Viserys and Dany because their father was mad.

So why cannot Renly skip Joffrey and his heirs because Joff and his mother are insane?

Yeah Renly's empty claim for the throne got him killed. He should have supported Stannis

Why? ignoring killer queefs, how does siding with Stannis, another usurper that brings nothing, help him?

The question is not why can't he do it, the question is: "Are some fan's understanding and acceptance of Renly's actions a bit much?"

He has his reasons to do what he did. We can judge them and consider if we accept them or not. Is killing kids he thinks are his own blood to get the throne something we can shrug off?

How is Stannis a usurper? Please explain I would love to hear your reasoning, how can you possibly back up that BS claim?

Bugger "rightful king" bollocks, conquering shit is how its done in Westeros - what Legal right did Robert have that put him above his cousins and nephews, what legal right did Aegon have to conquer the 7k?

And to those saying all he had was his charisma and popularity? So what? Its popular kings who have peaceful reigns, look at King John of England, nobody gives a shit about your legal right to rule if you're unpopular. Kings like Stannis would alienate his lords and his embracing of the Red God would turn the people against him, especially given that they're devout enough to get the High Sparrow in charge and forming the Faith Militant

Fanfiction.

Renly never claims he'd kill the "Baratheon", and considering his obsession with good PR, he'd most likely keep them around under a close watch to show the Realm how merciful he can be.

Because he has exactly no evidence that the children aren't Robert's, as it stands to most of Westeros he's just a usurper who's come up with a convenient excuse that just so happens to remove everyone ahead of him from the line of succession. Like Blackfyre saying Daeron was the son of Aemon or in RL Warwick claiming Edward IV was the bastard son of an Archer
