Invade and Conquer the U.S.A

Stemming from a conversation I was having with a few friends, Is it possible for a foreign country to invade and conquer the United States? Is it possible with the current infrastructure? Nationalism has been a strong trait in the American population over the last century, however in this new global age... I am not so sure with the younger generation. Does this open the United States up for foreign influence?

Nope, no one has the Navy to do it. Anything resembling a hostile invasion force would get blown to to dust before it ever got close by the US Navy, and no power has anything close to match US Naval strength. If anyone did successfully invade and conquer the occupation would be a bitch, America has a huge population of gun nuts wanting to live out Rambo fantasies aplenty. I just don't see any scenario where this kind of thing could succeed.

Let's assume it's Russia who'd want to do this, maybe with some help from sympathetic Latin American nations. First you'd have to send in some crack airborne outfits disguised as commercial charters to take passes in the Rockies. Knock out key communication centers with some well-targeted, surprisingly accurate nuke strikes.

Then send infiltrators, Cubans mostly, into the Midwest through Texas, to wreak havoc and disable key bases. They can open up the door for Cuban and Nicaraguan armies coming up from the south and overrun the Great Plains. But you'd need to reinforce all these gains with at least 60 divisions through the Bering Strait into Alaska, cut the pipeline come across Canada to link up across the middle.

And you'd need the Europeans to decide that twice in the last hundred years was enough, and sit this one out. And even then, if all that has gone right, it's highly likely that at some point the remaining US forces (and heroic private citizens armed with rifles waging a guerilla campaign) will stop your butt cold, lock you into a stalemate.

moreover...all occidental states are heavily indebted..why buy when you can just claim the payment of public debt....

I'm sure its possible, although by the time you have conquered the US its probably not worth occupying.

first you have to steal another contries nukes and lots of them.

then you have to secretly deploy them preferably not from where you want to live.

If your successful here then you should have taken out enough of the USA for them to be considered beeten. but you will have to then deal with the response, NATO and any US base or ship/sub still capable of launching nukes themeselves (and there will be loads of these).

If you don't have a loads of nukes just some really big ones then you could try for something a bit out there, maybe do a stragicic detonation at key points in Yellowstone. If your lucky and with the help of hollywood science that will do the trick. hell with the arftermath they may not even have realised they where nuked.

alternativly you could try old germ warfare - just make sure your people have all been vacinated and hope it don't mutate.
