Sons of Anarchy Season 7 (Spoilers & Muscial Montages)

The final season is here and the first episode has no less than two musical montages.

Further on our vest clad heroes torture a guy in a wheelchair, murder innocent people and seemingly kick off a massive gang war.

Also it does not seem to have crossed anyones mind that Gemma might have killed Tara, when she should rightly be the prime suspect.

And finally, how the fuck is Unser still alive? Hasn't he been dying of cancer since the first season?

Yeah,

Way to go Gemma with the blame it on the Asians move. There just simply is no possible way that could unfold in regrettable fashion now, is there?

Still, glad to see this show back. It does be pointing to a Hamlet like ending to be sure.

Normalcy bias plus it's not Gemma's style to get her hands dirty, usually she manipulates someone to do her killing for her. I had no problem with the Asian dude getting the blame, and the torture scene was simply a way to show how far Jax has fallen, he's a full bore sociopath now, he enjoys torturing and killing people. He believed Gemma because he wanted to go medieval on someone to make himself feel better. If Gemma had told him it was the dude with the wooden hands then it'd have been him getting salt rubbed into his knife wounds.

All up a great first episode, way better than last season which played up for shock value. Clearly Jax's strategy is to kill all of his enemies, so likely the whole thing will end in an orgy of blood, which is how I want it to.

Given that the last they saw of Gemma last season was her flipping out over Jax going to jail, stealing a car and disappearing, you would at least think that they would consider her a suspect, especially given her habit of routinely doing stupid impulsive things.

I have been waiting for a big biker-gang war between the SOA and the Mayans since the first season, so I kind hope I will finally get it.

They show is as dumb as ever. Let's just take Gemma's word for it - it's not like she's ever lied before. Also, how the hell does she justify starting a gang war as "protecting her family"? She really needs to die a horrible death at this stage. I'd probably have her see a few of her loved ones die first though so she can see what she has wrought.

I'd have thought Juice could also have been a suspect. The police don't seem too fussed that another of their sheriffs has been killed - this time in a biker gang's home,

I guess we just have to roll with the nonsense and hope it's fun.

Happy was a satisfying non-entity again. Now we know he has smiley faces tattooed on him for every kill. What Depth,

I wouldn't be surprised if we are treated to an hour long montage musical episode this season. Why does this show get such long episodes anyway - I don't think they required 74 minutes to get that episode across other than a chance to play the songs in full.

It's so they get time for all that bro-hugging, out-of-the-blue-murder and Nero being an idiot.

and time spent in the porn studio/brothel where no-one ever takes their clothes off. There was a lot more of Juice on show.

I still find it ridiculous that no one in the club alerted Gemma to the deal, they know she is crazy, hated Tara at the end, and wanted her grandchildren back. You figure With how close they are Jax would have called her immediately to reassure her and tell her not to blame Tara for his decision to protect his family.

It's the kind of show that happily ignores reason to keep things the way they want hence this ridiculous plot with Gemma. I mean how many times has she pulled this kind of shit only for Jax to go on a "your dead to me" speech only to be followed an episode or two later with "I don't know what I'd do without you"

The other problem is that I've realised the whole cast are horrible human beings. Cure for cancer - Unsner is the only one I'd be mildly upset with dying. Not that I mind watching a show with bad people in it but I'm not wishing in any way that they make it. It seems like organised crime as a whole would work better without SoA living to their namesake and spreading chaos due to their soap opera stupidity.

Fuck it, I'm totally rooting for Alvarez and the Mayans as it looks right now.

Yeah that about sums it up for me. I do sort of still laugh about the children who never age and court dates or various events that never seem to arrive. I did like how they actually referenced a few events from earlier seasons as if they actually happened and I liked the Manson cameo.

Fat Manson was funny.

I still like the idea that Charming is supposed to be a small town yet has a specialist hospital and every ethnic gang imaginable set up. And one small police department. It's like the grand theft auto games.

I'm trying to think from the other gangs whether they've ever instigated trouble, The triad seems well justified in exacting revenge at this point.

Ha yeah I'd forgotten about that, pudgy emo as Aryan Brother kingpin, of course his acting was terrible but at the same he kinda worked. Yeah I reckon Marilyn would make a great Nazi prison gang leader.

On a more inclusive note I'm getting the feeling Jax will open up the SoA to black members, which is why they've included the otherwise totally pointless Bastards storyline. I reckon they'll be patched over. There's was a hint of it when Juice was found to be half black, and now the Bastards are hurting for members, mainly due to their terrible decision to ally with the SoA crew, so Jax will feel obligated.

Which in turn will upset Marilyn Manson's aryan crew at the thought of working with black people. Yeah, that's a lock in plot development. We'll probably get another scenario where Jax appears to be sacrificing one of the black cycle members to the Aryans in a deal too.

To be fair, Jax told Marilyn Manson (I though that guy looked familiar) that his crew pretty much had to ally with black to survive an potential war.

That makes more sense now. I thought they were initially talking about giving the niners the gun trade.

Episode 2 was a lot stronger. It looks like the villains this season are the sons themselves and in a way it's more entertaining watching them be what they have been all along. Although I find it odd how Bobby is so happy to go along with all this since they tried to make him cute and cuddly for a season.

There's still massively fluctuating levels of intelligence going around though. Unsner just happens to leave his "I'm working for the sheriff" files in his unlocked mobile home in the parking of SAMCRO's garage and despite all the machievellian scheming of Jax, they still leave a noticeable shotgun from the hit they run earlier in the day. What makes these moments worse is that it's just lazy writing to get from point a to b - it'd wouldn't take much more effort to have these things roll out more organically.

The other thing I'm having trouble getting to grips with is the convenience of gang power levels. The entire show has been about SAMCRO hanging on in there against the superior forces. Now they seem to be a super-power despite them not having any more (arguably less) manpower than ever. I'll swallow it if it means we get to see them cause utter chaos. Maybe they'll be a force for good only in the sense they decimate all the gangs in the region.

Finally, is the show sponsored by a tobacco company? I've never noticed them smoke so much in the show but it's constant now - they even talk about it in the episode (although it at least comes with a health warning).

I actually really liked this episode although there was plenty of stupidity for the sake of plot-convenience, at least they seem to have dropped all pretence of the Sons being the good guys.

Honestly, I think it would feel weird if a bunch of criminal bikers weren't smoking like chimneys.

A bit in the same vein, how is it that they are allowed to say the "N-Word" but not to say "Fuck" on the show?
