Jm4n68
and Moonboy for all I know At its Core, the theory asserts that:1) Brienne avenges Renly with an Oathkeeper to the Stannis2) Davos connects Stannis & Brienne. Mayhaps at The Twins or Blue Ford, The Riverlands general area. Does the BF factor in?3) Jaime heads to Kings LandingKey Assumption(s)-Stannis Wins the Battle for Winterfell-Davos secures White Harbor, moves to rejoin Stannis-Sansa/Rickon OR Revenge on Stannis pushes Brienne north-Aegon is rejected/rebuffed from Riverlands/North-Dany has not touched down in Westeros yetIntroStarted this theory from a reread of Renly's death and thinking on Jaime's fate. I credit the thread for helping develop the idea, I feel quite strongly that the base assertion is going to happen but connecting the dots can go several ways with this series. Brienne swore to herself and Catelyn she would get revenge for Renly. What else can I do, but die?Live, she said, live, and fight, and take revenge.-ASOS Jaime IV-this is Brienne's advice to Jaime. She will practice what she preachedBrienne is leading Jaime to LS where the books leave off, I think Jaime will be interrogated/tried before being sent on a mission to Kings Landing. His place is with the King, he can't die at this point. So many references over the course of A Feast For Crows:I am sworn to protect the king. My place is at his side.-AFFC Jaime IIIJaime repeats this in his next 2 chapters. Then he sorts out Riverrun, exchanging words with Edmure. The Jaime chapter after that, when dealing with the aftermath of the Blackfish escaping, he says this:Once he found the Blackfish, he would be free to return to Kings Landing, where he belonged. My place is with my king. With my son.-AFFC Jaime VIIThis leads me to believe the Blackfish may be with the BWB. How he plays in I am not sure. Will he fight Jaime? Or will he reluctantly work with him? Not likely given the heated exchange they had last meet. Jaime is not particularly guilty of anything, he has dispensed justice to the outlaws on behalf of the King's peace. Kept his vows as best he could, whether he is free to leave on his on accord, or coerced, he heads to KL.Widows Wail is in KL, along with his son Tommen, and his sweet sister Cersei. He moves in that direction. Him using WW on Cersei would be an interesting parallel with Brienne using Oathkeeper. There is a chance he is tasked with retrieving it to be reforged back into Ice, but doubtful.Brienne, whether freed to seek Stannis or tasked with saving Rickon, heads towards Stannis. Stannis' position and options following the siege of Winterfell seem limited:-He moves South. Its a no brainer, easier weather and the IT is South.-The North won't be binded to his cause unless the Ironborn and Freys are taken care of-Taking reinforcements from the coast seems likely. (Massey/Manderly)Davos and Melisandre are the two big variables. The DeclarationIt made sense enough for Brienne."I will kill him," the tall homely girl declared. "With my lord's own sword, I will kill him. I swear it. I swear it. I swear it."Catelyn ACOK p 505 -LS remembers. Oaths sworn to her and sworn by her are in play.-My lord's could mean Lady Starks Lord, as OK is part ice-reforged.-Brienne fell in love with Renly as an innocent young girl. She earned her Blue Cloak of the Rainbow guard and Stannis ruined the one good thing she had in her life.On 561 Catelyn wants to strangle CerseiJaime may use this make himself useful, through doing it or escorting her toOn page 562 Cat promises not to hold her back from Stannis when the time comes. If Jaime is handled and Sansa reappears, Brienne should be free."And I vow that you shall always have a place by my hearth and meat and mead at my table, and pledge to ask no service of you that might bring you into dishonor. I swear it by the old gods and the new. Arise."Catelyn ACOK 563Brienne can use this as a shield against fighting Jaime if tasked to by LS.I wonder how the Lord of Light views this pledge...Some interesting parallels between Jaime's WW dream and Briennes fight in AFFC.Jaime's Weirwood DreamHe goes back for Brienne after this.Brienne's sword took flame as well, burning silvery blue. The darkness retreated a little more."The flames will burn as long as you live," he heard Cersei call. "when they die, so must you."Jaime ASOS 610-Interesting how both swords glow a silvery blue flame. Nothing like Lightbringer.-Tywin, Joffrey, and Cersei are there. Possible foreshadowing of Cersei dying before Jaime. May just be symbols of control exerted over Jaime's life.It made no sense. Yet there came two riders on pale horses, men and mounts both armored. They make no sound, Jaime realized. No splashing, no clink of mail nor clop of hoof...."There are more." He saw them too. They were armored all in snow, it seemed to him, and ribbons of mist swirled back from their shoulders...."Crowned in mist and grief with his long hair streaming behind him, rode Rhaegar Targaryen, Prince of Dragonstone and rightful heir to the Iron Throne."You don't frighten me," he called, turning as they split to either side of himJaime ASOS 611-612 -Something about the riders and splitting to both sides of Jaime conjures an image of him in the Throne room.-The armored in snow part is intriguing.-Rhaegar possibly symbolizes..... Stannis? Aegon? Jon Snow? or perhaps just him confronting his past, which he is not afraid to do.Jaime's sword's flame goes out at the end.....Now on to Brienne's battle at the WhispersThe centrality of the Weirwood to this place, the 'whispers' and dream of Jaime are more than coincidence. Why did Jaime turn back for Brienne? Of all the cruel jests Jaime thought to remark, he says that he dreamed of (Brienne). She went to sleep dreaming of the fight they'd had, and of Ser Jaime fastening a rainbow cloak about her shoulders. Brienne AFFC 404Brienne dreams of Jaime before her encounter."The Whispers," said Nimble Dick. "Have a listen. You can hear the heads."Brienne AFFC 412It did sound like whispering, though, and for a moment she could almost see the heads, sitting on their shelves and muttering to one another. "I should have used the sword" one of them was saying. "I should have used the magic sword." Brienne AFFC 415The whispers nibbled at her ears, insistent. Brienne AFFC 416-Whispers may indicate some form of communication..a second man slipped over the lip of the well, making no more noise than a snake might make slithering across a pile of wet leaves Brienne AFFC 416-The suddenness and silence with which these familiar faces show up is somewhat similar to Jaime's dream.Oathkeeper was alive in her hands. She had never been so quick. The blade became a grey blur. Brienne AFFC 420-Peculiar description given the way the swords appear in Jaime's dreamA person and their place:Brienne lowered Oathkeeper. "Dig a grave. There, beneath the weirwood." She pointed with her blade. "I have no spade.""You have two hands." one more than you left Jaime."Why bother? Leave them for the crows.""Timeon and Pyg can feed the crows. Nimble Dick will have a grave. He was a Crabb. This is his place." Brienne AFFC 421-She invokes revenge for Jaime several times in the chapter. Interesting how she does here while also touching on the theme of people ending up in there place. Like Lyanna, unlike Catelyn, hopefully like Jaime.but he was a knight of the Kingsguard, his rightful place was with his king. Brienne AFFC 406May not mean anything, but The chapter with Briennes fight ends with this:and down below the ground the heads of forgotten kings whispered secrets. Brienne learns much from her travels with Jaime. The Maid of Tarth can fool Davos into letting her get close enough to Stannis, with sapphires or Gendry or a promise of fealty from Tarth. They both share disdain for Melisandre and her shadow magic.Davos, Melisandre, Blackfish, and the outcome of the BWB/LS confrontation are all wildcards. All that aside, Stannis is doomed. Brienne is supposed to do something of significance, she won't be a waste of a POV like some other AFFC characters GRRM has said so. Brienne kills Stannis with Oathkeeper, If I had to pinpoint the location I'd guess the Blue Fork of the Trident. But its happening.
Pod The Impaler
Certainly a strong possibility. The sword is called Oathkeeper, and Brienne did swear that oath too. Incidentally, Catelyn did swear she would never keep Brienne from her vengeance against Stannis, so that can be used against Lady Stoneheart of need be. I envision Brienne with Oathkeeper taking on Stannis and "Lightbringer". If Stannis loses that fight, and / or if "Lightbringer" is destroyed, then Brienne does not even have to kill Stannis to bring justice upon him and destroy his being called the Ahor Azai reborn.
