Antler's Fury
So I've been hearing rumors on the boards that Wyman Manderly has been cut and merged with the Umbers, and it's frustrating because I can't find any independent confirmation of this. Does anyone have any concrete information one way or the other? I really hope it isn't true because I've been really looking forward to seeing White Harbor in the opening credits and/or in a KL/Braavos style overhead shot, and am dying to see how the show portrays the Wolf's Den, the Merman's Court, and of course, Lord Too-Fat, who is my favorite Northman by far. They can cut the Greyjoys as far as I'm concerned, cut them into tiny pieces. Same with the Griffs. I'm really pissed that they cut Arianne (who better for Dorne Porne?) but I'd be willing to stomach all of that if I could get me some of Lord Lard. Merging him with the Umbers would suck. Granted, they've got a perfect Greatjon Umber in Clive Mantle, but the Unsullied have probably forgotten about him by now since he hasn't appeared for three seasons, and frankly, whatever the Last Hearth looks like, I doubt it can hold a candle to White Harbor as far as awesome new locations are concerned. The Season 3 Histories and Lore did focus on the Manderlys a bit more than the other Northern Houses, so I was particularly shocked to hear these rumors. So, the North Remembers, but can anyone tell me if D&D forgot?
Sword of the Morgan
To be honest, I'm not thrilled when they cut anyone. I think the one that makes the most sense in Quentyn, since he's rather usless, but I can't believe they cut Arianne. Cutting Manderly would be a bummer too, but he's still on the minor side. He would have been a fun character to see come to life, though,
Sword of the Morgan
And I really wanted to see the Frey Pie scene.
Duckfield
I think it's very possible they merged the umbers and manderlys. That way they don't need cast Mors Umber because they'll just merge him with Greatjon or something. Another possibility is that they're going to skip the entire "infiltrating the Boltons" thing and just have Stannis winning the battle for WF and taking out Roose and Ramsay. That way they don't need the Manderlys OR the Umbers OR casting more Freys. I don't like any of the changes the show made, and I hope they won't mess the Northers story up, but after the 2nd season my expectations from the show dropped hard. Beric175
I mean if Rickon in the show goes to the Umbers instead of Skagos and if they can merge the Umbers with the Manderlys that would actually condense a lot of stuff.
Cas Stark
if they cut manderly they are officially, irredeemably stupid in my opinion.
zaphodbrx
if they cut manderly they are officially, irredeemably stupid in my opinion. Would a merging with Great Jon be considered a cut?
Cas Stark
Would a merging with Great Jon be considered a cut? yes. plus, they already had and cut the great jon, so that would be double stupid
Lord of Nutella
well, if i recall right at the end of Season 3 Bran tells Osha to take Rickon to the Umbers. I never thought about it, but to me that seems like a confirmation of Manderly being replaced by the Umbers.
Kyrion
So far out of the completely new characters that become POV characters in Feast and Dance, Only Areo Hotah is confirmed. All the rest seem to either be cut or held off till next year(Quentyn, Arianne, Aeron, Jon Connington, and Victarion). Arys could have been seen in Season 2 but wasnt so I guess he qualifies. Beric175
Actually introducing less characters seemingly makes them less stupid because then they are free to cut to the chase and do their own thing with less restrictions by or need to pay heed to the books...does not sound like a stupid move to me. HodoringHodor
They might possibly merge Manderlys with Umbers. The actor who played Greatjon Umber tweeted earlier this year saying that Greatjon wasn't at the Red Wedding and is alive and well. Before that he hadn't mentioned GoT at all so saying something like that out of the blue could signal his return on the show.
FalseKnight
This thread is nothing like what I expected when I opened it.
Darryk
Something I thought they might do is have Jon Umber play the Wyman Manderly role, and to be honest it would make perfect sense. Big John Umber is someone the audience will already be familiar with and who will have made an impression on them. Better than introducing yet another cast member whom the audience will have no emotional investment in, yet will play a role that requires emotional investment on the part of the audience. We don't need a Wyman Manderly, just someone who can play that role of representing the northern conspiracy.
