Has the Fat Man Sung? (Book Spoilers)

So I've been hearing rumors on the boards that Wyman Manderly has been cut and merged with the Umbers, and it's frustrating because I can't find any independent confirmation of this. Does anyone have any concrete information one way or the other? I really hope it isn't true because I've been really looking forward to seeing White Harbor in the opening credits and/or in a KL/Braavos style overhead shot, and am dying to see how the show portrays the Wolf's Den, the Merman's Court, and of course, Lord Too-Fat, who is my favorite Northman by far. They can cut the Greyjoys as far as I'm concerned, cut them into tiny pieces. Same with the Griffs. I'm really pissed that they cut Arianne (who better for Dorne Porne?) but I'd be willing to stomach all of that if I could get me some of Lord Lard. Merging him with the Umbers would suck. Granted, they've got a perfect Greatjon Umber in Clive Mantle, but the Unsullied have probably forgotten about him by now since he hasn't appeared for three seasons, and frankly, whatever the Last Hearth looks like, I doubt it can hold a candle to White Harbor as far as awesome new locations are concerned. The Season 3 Histories and Lore did focus on the Manderlys a bit more than the other Northern Houses, so I was particularly shocked to hear these rumors. So, the North Remembers, but can anyone tell me if D&D forgot?

Well, I can't speak to that, but there are two things that are evidence for the Manderlys' inclusion.

1.) The shot of Wendel Manderly at the Red Wedding.

2.) In the Season 3 "Histories & Lore" segment on the North, Jon Snow spends a fair bit of time discussing the Manderlys and White Harbor. Seems to me they wouldn't spend so much time emphasizing them, especially as every other House that is mentioned (Stark, Bolton, Mormont, Karstark, and Umber) has been seen in the show up to that point.

ETA: Just saw you'd mentioned the H&L section.

A random poster claimed it (Manderley's stuff going to Umbers) as the truth back in V2 or V3 of this thread. They had no links to corroborate their theory and gave no sources if my memory serves me right.

My god, I hope he's in. Manderley is by far and away the best thing to happen in Book 5, the scenes with Davos kick arse and his "The North Remembers" line is one of the best in the book, not to mention the pies. Plus all the other times he's mentioned with Cersei etc would provide great context for TV.

I hope they keep him. For me he's a better addition than all of the Dornish, he is the one character who finally gives the reader hope for the Starks.

I know, I can't see why they would drop Manderly. There are so many plusses from the way I'd view good TV.

Just a few:

His story ties in with other established story arcs in the Show (Cersei's delusional power grab, Theon, Stannis and the Boltons in Winterfel and most importantly Davos and the return of the Starks), it's not a random aside like the Ironborn, the Griffs and Dorne.

The Merman's court would be an ace set as would the be White Harbour; I just salivate at seeing the Wolf's Den.

House Manderly is already in the Show Cannon.

He has some of the best lines in the books and they have already used "The North remembers" in promotional material.

He, like David Bradley's brilliant Walder Frey, would be an interesting minor character with the presence to hold just a couple of scenes.

I'm going to hold on to hope until the season starts because there is no reason for the character to be in any non studio scenes, his minor role with major influence would best be handled by a big name actor and on a short schedule and I recon all his work could be done in 3 days.

Come on D & D, keep that Merman!

No but they made a point of showing Wendel Manderly at the red wedding, branishing a Merman pin and all so we know the family exists in the show.

If the show doesn't give him a first name, then it's just speculation what the Manderley is. Having a another Northern sigil is good, but doesn't imply anything.

Cogman said the GreatjJon is free. He also said..I think, that we'll be seeing him again in the story.

Well Oddie Braddell was cast as WENDEL MANDERLY but with the previous mention of Theon's UNCLES and Trystane's ranking in the Martell Family I doubt it matters much anyway.

Ok, so showing a dude with a pin implies that the Manderlys are in? What kind of logic is that? There is no mention of house Manderly whatsoever in the show.

Infact I have no memory of this chap at all. Did he have a line, or was it a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment?

Pretty much. you can see him behind Robb around the 0.24 mark and seated beside Blackfish around the 3.24 mark.

What is the latest we would hear about casting , for a GOT season ? I mean , when do they usually wrap shooting a season, typically ?

I feel it's getting late and I'm starting to get nervous that Wyman may be cut... Which would be so incredibly foolish, imho.. audiences would love someone who knows how to play the game, wants to restore their liege lords to their seat in Winterfell and wants to do very bad things to Freys.

Oddie Braddell is credited as Wendel Manderly on IMDB and on A Wiki of Ice and Fire.
