Goddess Dictator
Thank you Quoth! good to hear from you. I guess it would be more appropriate for me to say hey anyone that remembers me please PM me so I know what you've been up to. So you don't feel like you need to post details of your life lol. but yeah I've missed the board and you guys. I've tried to come back before but I needed to reset my password and it never would let me until today.
Ser Scot A Ellison
GD,Welcome back and congratulations to you and your fiancee. Gardening... is challenging.
Goddess Dictator
Ser Scot! hey man! do you know anything about gardening? Seriously I'm trying to learn lol. Yes it's challenging. I have a leg up b/c the people that owned it before me had done a lot of work. So right now it's mostly not killing what's already there. Which is harder than it sounds alas. I have tomato plants which I'm fairly familiar with. I have an asparagus bed which I have no idea how to tend. I have blueberry bushes which I'm ok with. My biggest challenge right now is I have a pear tree (actually I have three pear trees, three apple trees, and three plum trees all of which bear fruit) but this particular pear tree is currently covered in no less than 200 pears and I don't know what in the world to do with them. ideas? Ser Scot A Ellison
I'm good at preping the soil. Bunny cocopuffs for the win along with all your organic garbage can turn even sandy rocky soil (like we have at our house) pretty loamy. My one problem is fixing nitrogen. I'm going to have to suck it up next year and grow some sort of beans that will fix nitrogen in my beds or resort to chemical fettilizers (which I really don't want to do. Goddess Dictator
Gotcha. I'm lucky on that front. This is prime farm land and it's been maintained. I think I could drop a dime out there and it would grow into SOMETHING. (money tree? hell I'm trying it.) but yeah I have sooooo many pears and don't know how to can (yet) and I dont' want them to go to waste. I suppose I can try selling them. Goddess Dictator
It really is! I'm super happy. I grew up in a family of farmers and rural folk and became a city girl in Los Angeles for 11 years. Guess I'm getting back to my roots? oh god the pun. the PUN it burns. Tears of Lys
Hey, GD, how the hell 'ya been? Wondered what happened to you. There's a regular gardening thread that's probably some pages back by now. I regularly post in it, I know DalThor posts in it too, and a lot of others. Gardening is challenging, to say the least. Especially when you've got a Disney movie run amok in your yard as I do. Deer, fox, skunk, raccoon, rabbits... oh, the rabbits we have! And they are voracious and eat EVERYTHING. Anyway, good to see your name appearing back on the board. Are you going to have the kitten with the AK47 again? :P (eta: as your avatar, I mean.)
Goddess Dictator
Hahahah hey Tears of Lys! good to see you! I'll look for the gardening thread thanks! Yeah we have a ton of wildlife too, but the garden is fenced in heavily for that reason. oh god that avatar. i'd almost forgotten. hahahah

DreamSongs
Do you know how many years the asparagus bed has been in action? They take 3 years before you really have a harvest once you put them in. Depending on your winter weather, they may need to be banked (covered with soil or straw)
