The blood of valyria - Celtigar, Valerion and Targaryan

Why werent the houses of Celtigar and Valerion deposed after roberts rebellion? Seeing as other prominent supporters like connington or Darry was made into knightly houses isnt it likely that the two remaing Valyrian houses would do the same? Especially if Stannis was the man responsible for sorting the out, being their liege lord and all, why didnt he do justice?

Well, Robert was quite inconsistent. For example, he also did not depose the Martells or the Tyrells who also fought on Aerys' side.

There were noone in the reach or dorne to take power after them, as all of them were also targ supporters. and it is to big to be ruled by a new ruler. Crab isle or driftmark are much smaller and could be rewarded to a loyal knight, of which he had many.

Why should he? They fought loyally for their liege, nothing wrong with that.

Connington and Darry on the other hand rebelled against their lieges. Furthermore, they didn't get made knightly houses, they retained their status. Well, Darry did, Connington actually got some of it back after Aerys stripped them ot all their lands and the Lordships.

Connington is the only house that was reduced in size. Darry just lost prestige, but I don't remmeber any lands lost. Connington was a Stormlord and a figurehead of the Stormlands loyalists. He was made and example, but nothing the other huoses did deserved the same.

Do we even know that the Celtigars and Velaryons were prominent supporters of the Targaryen's during the rebellion? I mean I'm sure they were loyalists but I don't remember reading anything about their activities during that time. For all we know they didn't send any men to help Aerys.

what did house connigton lose, they still held griffin's roost, and ever since aerys threw out joncon they didn't shift in standing

They got demoted from lords to landed knights, and lost a lot of land. But as Bright Blue Eyes said, that was Aery's doing.

it would make as much sense to depose the lord of rosby, and would paint robert as racist :P

good point.

also i am wodnering about these two houses, how loyal are they? the darrys clearly still has a boner for the targs, can driftmark and crab isle be the same? Maybe they just helped stannis cause they had to? He had the power to destroy them, seeing as he had the royal fleet.

They are now in two factions, with celtigar with Tommen and valerion with Stannis at the wall. Will these two houses declare for Aegon, and do they share lore from valyria?

I am intrigued by then and hope we learn more of them, they are so prominent in the novellas.

They were made a knightly house and reduced their domains, read "the griffin reborn" in ADWD, he details it in his head.

House Darry lost half thier lands, most of their wealth (so probably the better half of lands), and nearly all of thier former power, for supporting the Targs over the Tullys. House Connington lost 90% of it's lands, and was reduced in rank to a knightly house for supporting the Targs over the Baratheons.

Aerys did that. Not Robert.

Robert Baratheon had completed the destruction of the griffins after the war. Cousin Ronald was permitted to retain his castle and his head, but he lost his lordship, thereafter being merely the Knight of Griffin’s Roost, and nine-tenths of his lands were taken from him and parceled out to neighbor lords who had supported Robert’s claim.

Hand JonCon: 100%

Ronald under Aerys: hedge knight without a penny.

Ronald under Robert: Landed knight with 10%.

I'm not saying you're wrong, I think the book trumps a SSM. but this is the quote that made me and Blue Eyes believe it was Aerys. There may be some way to reconcile these two things, or Martin just changed his mind.

Connington is a special case, and you have the essence of it. Details are made clear in FEAST FOR CROWS. When Jon Connington was defeated at the Battle of the Bells, Aerys exiled him and stripped his House of all its lands and wealth. After the Rebellion, Robert restored the castle to a cousin of Lord Jon's... but only the castle, and some small grounds around it. The extensive Connington lands were parceled out to others, and the house's wealth remained in the treasury. Nor was Robert willing to recall Lord Jon from exile, since he had been among Prince Rhaegar's closest friends. Thus the Conningtons were once great lords... but Red Ronnet, their present head, is simply a landed knight, the Knight of Griffin's Roost.

...full quote...

After the Battle of the Bells, when Aerys Targaryen had stripped him of his titles and sent him

into exile in a mad fit of ingratitude and suspicion, the lands and lordship had remained within House

Connington, passing to his cousin Ser Ronald, the man whom Jon had made his castellan when he went

to King’s Landing to attend Prince Rhaegar. Robert Baratheon had completed the destruction of the

griffins after the war. Cousin Ronald was permitted to retain his castle and his head, but he lost his

lordship, thereafter being merely the Knight of Griffin’s Roost, and nine-tenths of his lands were taken

from him and parceled out to neighbor lords who had supported Robert’s claim.

There were (and still are) Houses a plenty that would be willing to kiss Robert's ass if he would appoint them Lord Paramount of any tose Kingdoms. Especially in the Reach, where there are several Houses which have a better claim to Highgarden by right of blood, and consider the Tyrells a bunch of upjumped stewards.

and it is to big to be ruled by a new ruler.

Just like Westeros is also too big to be ruled by a new ruler.........

Westeros itself was ruled by a new ruler, but all the powerhouses remained, except the targes. The ladder directly beneath robert were the same as under Aerys. The reach however would disintegrate, if given to the florents other houses would be mad and claim that the florents were not their lords. If given to anyone else the florents would be furious. The ladder would shift to much simply.

Robert's warhammer would keep the Reachlords in line.
