Speculation on Wights and Stoneheart

I have read a big number of fan theories on the books and the TV series but one that is always in the back of my mind is not drawn-up very much.

This is a 'what if' speculation which I think would fit in the cruelty of GRRM's books and D&D's series.

There is so much focus, especially in the books, on bringing people back from the death and it is basically done in two ways. The way of the others (creating wights) and the way of the red priests (like with Lady Stoneheart).

What if, in the final battle between fire and Ice:
- The Others resurrect all the death they encounter to become wights, fighting on their side (for example the dead Starks, Stannis Baratheon (if he actually died) and other characters in the North who died)
- The Red Priests (presumably fighting on the fire (and dragons) side resurrect all the death they encounter to become their 'zombie army' (for example Brienne, Stoneheart and so on)

This would lead to a very unconfortable battle where Ned and Cat Stark will oppose Rob Stark (with wolf-head) and Jon Snow (if he is actually dead).

Does this sound like a valid theory to you or is it way off?

I don't know whether it could be a valid theory, but it sounds very interesting! Two mighty forces resurrect dead... the Others (ice) and the Red Priests (fire)... that could very well be a reference to the battle of ice and fire! Who knows! :)

IMO, it sounds like one of those old Sinbad movies with the animated skeletons fighting. I rather it not go in that direction, as it would all seem too simple, contrived to put it best. Though there are elements of fantasy, magic in Westeros, it was the harsh politics and brush strokes of realism that caught my attention to GOT, we don't really need Pirates of the Caribbean to enter into this story. Then again, GRRM might loose a few screws by the time he gets to his final book and end it with all the events happening in the blue eye of a giant named Macumba...pissing on a tree.

Cheers!

It has certainly more than just crossed my mind that the re-animation of the wights is similar in some respects to that of LSH and Beric Dondarrion.

I don't think there's enough to go on to draw any conclusions beyond that.

Does it mean for instance that there aren't really several different kinds of magic or more?

(We know so far of Ice magic, Fire magic, and blood magic. "Shadow binding" may also be a category unto itself.)

Are they separate, or are they all just different aspects of the same thing?

Do you know what would be really cool?

If GRRM were to write and publish the rest of the damned novels, and explain these things to us.

There's a fundamental difference between the wighting the Others are doing and the resurrection that the Red Priests are doing. They may both be forms of wighting but the Others' wights don't speak, have no consciousness that we know of, and are basically thralls. The Fire Wights have their memories (at least the first time back, under normal circumstances), their identities, and their own will.

You might enjoy my thread on Wighting Theory.
