Lord Rhaegel Tarly
As far as I can remember, the Blackwoods are the only 'southern' house mentioned that still worship the Old Gods. Do any other ancient southern houses (like the Farmans, Royces, Corbrays and Redforts) still worship the Old Gods?
TheKingUpNorth
Not as far as we know, thoose Vale houses you mention are Andals mostly though some were orginally first men
Slender Aimry Hill
Personally, I wouldn't be surprised. It would add to the 'old religion' verisimilitude of the situation. I seem to remember a WoW Arianne extract mentions a Mertyns weirwood in some detail and have my hopes about them too...
How I Met Your Hodor
Its possible some of the ancient first men houses in the south such as the Daynes still worship the old gods I guess
Makrell
They might indeed. The vale is the most likely place. The royces i think are likely
Gnivil
If there are I'd imagine they'd be in Dorne, they seem the most isolationist and least likely to take on the traditions of the other kingdoms.
Slender Aimry Hill
I can't quite imagine Dorne ever worshipping the Old Gods, though I don't know what they'd have done instead. A certain undeniable Oldie vibe coming off those bloody Daynes, though...
Baela of Pentos
House Dayne and Royce were descended from First Men, but produced knights, so likely worship the Seven.
Lion of the West
As far as I can remember, the Blackwoods are the only 'southern' house mentioned that still worship the Old Gods. Do any other ancient southern houses (like the Farmans, Royces, Corbrays and Redforts) still worship the Old Gods? Not that I know about. I think that the Blackwoods and Manderlys are supposed to be kind of parellels to each other. The Blackwoods are he last followers of the Old Gods in the South and the Manderlys the only major House holding to the Seven in the North. Fat Mac
The Vale houses aren't likely to worship the First Men. The Vale became the center of Andal culture in Westeros, and is considered the most chivalrous region, along with the Reach. That's why, even though the Royces were originally First Men, they and other Vale houses all likely worship the Seven.
The Knight of Greenfield
It does say in GoT that all heart trees south of the neck were destroyed except on the Isle of Faces so I would presume not
the storm king returns
The Daynes and Royces worship the 7, we know this for a fact because they produce Knights......However both are descendants of the first men so I would at least think they respect the old gods and sware on the old gods and the new when they make a vow/oath. Also Lord Royce has armour covered in Runes of the first men and is Said to protect him from harm which i assume means it protects him from magic. The fact that he wears the armour shows he at least slightly believes it works or why Where outdated rusty armour at all.
SacredOrderOfGreenMen
Not true; Davos's jailer was a "Ser" but he still worshipped the Old Gods. The Bronze Yohn offered the services of his Runestone's septon to tutor Sweetrobin, but he also has his magical set of armor and his banner, as well as, like most houses, having a weirwood heart tree. Until the World of Ice and Fire comes out, it's speculation about the Royce's personal faith. They may have some sort of hybrid situation going on; where formal events like marriages are done in the sept but privately the old gods are still respected and prayed to as well. But I don't think that the GRRM has been playing up the Royces and Redforts First Men identities for no reason.
GallowsKnight
The Royces and Redforts have strong first men roots. I'd imagine they have a strong respect for the old gods, if not a practicing faith.
Consigliere
It does say in GoT that all heart trees south of the neck were destroyed except on the Isle of Faces so I would presume not That isn't true. We have several confirmed cases of Weirwood heart trees south of The Neck (Storms End, Casterly Rock, Harrenhal, Riverrun, Raventree Hall and The Ravenry in Oldtown). Slender Aimry Hill
I found the Arianne II summary I was thinking of - the Rainwood is apparently riddled with wild weirwood trees. So while this may not mean that Houses like Mertyns and Wylde specifically keep the old gods, there might be a tinge of old time religion lingering round that whole forested Stormlands area. Makrell
Blackwoods produce knights: http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Bennifer_Blackwood(havent checked the book) (also this is from graphic novel i think) But you assimilate. i thijnk the blackwoods would call themselves knights, if only because they need to have the respects that knights do in the south. They will be fighting in tourneys, and there you must be a knight (see dunk and egg again)
Barrick Eddon
You don't need to worship the seven to be a knight , Ser Jorah Mormmont , Ser Rodrik Cassel , Ser Wynton Stout are from the north and worship the old gods . Best example for this is Ser Bartimus from White Harbor Davos could not argue with the truth of that. From what he had seen at Eastwatch-by-the-Sea,he did not care to know winter either. “What gods do you keep?” he asked the one-legged knight.“The old ones.” When Ser Bartimus grinned, he looked just like a skull. “Me and mine were herebefore the Manderlys
Nittanian
They will be fighting in tourneys, and there you must be a knight (see dunk and egg again)Actually, GRRM has clarified that a tourney's rules vary depending on who is hosting and where it is held. Being a lordling well trained at arms is prestige enough, knighted or not.I think Dunk had such difficulty because he didn't look the part. But I think when one shows up with decent armors, (being a knight is not cheap,) the host would not scrutinize too much. Otherwise, we'd never have a mystery knight.
