The "sun's son" is a misinterpretation

Dany has misinterpreted this portion of Quaithe's warning. Dany got the warning from the image of Quaithe that appeared in her bedroom, through spoken word. She didn't read it like we did when we were in her POV in that chapter.

So since Dany interpreted the warning as "sun's son", that what we see. But I argue that Quaithe really meant "Son's son". When speaking to someone, it sounds exactly the same, but only through reading it would you be able to tell what was really meant. And Dany doesn't get to ask Quaithe to elaborate on her warning either.

So who is the "Son's son?" Obviously it would be Daario Naharis, the Second son mercenary who has likely been plotting betrayal from the beginning.

"Soon comes the Pale Mare, and after her the others," implies the "others" (Sun's Son) is not there yet. Also, Daario is a Stormcrow. But The Second Sons have Plumm (was he away from Mereen yet when Quaithe popped up?), and now Tyrion and Jorah?

If I read the quote correctly:

"The glass candles are burning. Soon comes the pale mare, and after her the others. Kraken and dark flame, lion and griffin, the sun's son and the mummer's dragon.Trust none of them. Remember the Undying. Beware the perfumed seneschal."

Kraken and Dark Flame = Greyjoy & Moqorro

Lion and Griffin = Tyrion & Jon Connington

Sun's Son and Mummer's Dragon = Quentyn Martell & Young Griff (Aegon Blackfyre)

The Perfumed Seneschal is probably Varys.

It was spoken word to Dany, but George wrote "sun's son" for us.

Daario is a Stormcrow, not a Second Son. That is show only.

The argument could be made that it was written that way for us to understand Dany's interpretation of what Quaithe said.

For instance, in the fabulous and not at all age-inappropriate Westing Game, the word "none" is spoken, while inside the thoughts of another, it's written "nun." And we're automatically in Dany's head during this.

If Dany hadn't heard Quaithe correctly, than we'd still get Quaithe's sentence with the correct spelling, but a wrong spelling every time Dany repeated the lines to herself, I'd say. As it's spelled "sun's son" every single time, it's Quentyn or Trystane.. And seeing as how Trystane isn't moving towards Dany, it's Quentyn ;)

One of the reasons why I am suspicious that Dany is misinterpreting the warning is because she instantly put the pieces together. As soon as she meets Quentyn she asks Barristan what his what his family's sigil is, then remembers the warning Quaithe gave. She pieces it together far too easily for me to believe that it's so easy. Plus, how delicious would it be if she turned away Quentyn based on this prophecy and he would've been the one to help her, while she trusts someone else, oblivious to the fact that he is the "son's son."

Just a crackpot really but I like toying with it.

she asks barristan after remembering quaithe's warning

and the prophecy had nothing to do with her refusal to marry him

Quentyn does feel easy as the solution, especially given that Martin likes to have things come true, but not in the way we think.

Such as with

Jeyne Poole clearly being the girl in grey on the dying horse, not Alys

.

Still, until we have better evidence, the "normal" interpretation is the best we can do.

Good thing it had absolutely nothing to do with her refusal. If House Martell's sigil was anything else she would still have refused him. She was marrying Hizdahr the next day.

Quentyn is one of six. What difference does it make if she puts those pieces together immediately? There's more to come, which will take lots more chapters since she's not even near Aegon and JonCon, and Tyrion and Moqorro haven't arrived yet either. The amount of books to put things together, besides all her other plot, is limited.

I don't know how to interpret Quentyn being dangerous - though he does try to steal a dragon - but since Dany was under the threat of war from multiple sides and groups, 1 boy really couldn't have helped her at that moment. Perhaps, had she said 'okay' to him, 'let's go', she would have died because she couldn't outrun the ones who were trying to end her.

Which didn't turn out very well. Who knows how things would've turned out if she decided to abandon Mereen at the last minute and head for Westeros with an alliance to Dorne. But marrying Hizdahr, who by the way could fit as the "son's son" (Sons of the Harpy), was not a great idea at all.

Marrying Hizdahr worked though. The killings stopped.
