Fate of house Clegane

King of Vaes Tolorro

Recommended Posts

As of now, House Clegane is dead. Gregor and Sandor are for all purposed, deceased. They might return, or they might actually be dead, but their House is non existent at the moment.

What will happen to their young House? Gregor probably had bastards, in Roose Bolton's manner, and I doubt that Sandor is still a maid. :smug:  :hat:

Will this house die out with the two brothers? Will Sandor, if he lives, marry and take his lordship? Or will one of the Bastards that may or may not exist succeed their fathers' and become the Castellans of Casterly Rock?

Is this House doomed to death, or will it rise again?

I may be in a minority here, but I truly believe that Sandor is alive. I believe he will come back a changed man. I believe that Sansa has never forgotten him and that he will turn into her true knight in shining armor and that they will in some way, some how, some day, despite Littlefinger and every other damned obstacle in their path, I believe they will become the true Jonquil and Florian if you will. Sandor, despite his awful looks and his gruff and impossible personality, he loves Sansa, and Sansa, despite all of her flowery meanderings of handsome knights, I think she recognizes in Sandor what she wishes had been in Dontos. I am a sucker for a happy ending and I'm hoping that in this quagmire of unhappiness that George will give us at least this one.

Sandor is alive and undergoing a transformation. His house will rise again. Sansa will become his bride, I'm sure of it. I want it to be true so very, very badly!

I think Sandor is alive, and the Quiet Isle theory is legitimate, but there is also a cryptic reason in the text to believe he might since have left and is errmmm, as weird as it sounds, in Meereen - probably not by choice.

There is a major problem with Sandor claiming his seat after deserting the kingsguard, and any route to regaining his title would come through service to Dany anyway.

You've got my attention. Why do you think he is in Meereen? I don't think it will be as difficult as it sounds to reclaim his title. By the way, he never took the title of knight or lord if you remember so that would not be a problem. Sansa has a little problem of her own called regicide. We'll have to see how George Martin plays all of these plot ploys out. Delicious!

Cleganes keep will be given to anothwer house, house clegane as we know it is dead, if sandor has a redemption he wont get clegane hall and i doubt he will get much else.

He'll keep his name though. I believe he is going to redeem himself in a big way. Whoever ends up on the Iron Throne will reward him. Maybe it won't be House Clegane, maybe it will be something better. If he does end up with Sansa, he will have something significant. I am a hopeful romantic that roots for the underdog. Can't help my mushy self. I want those two together.

It revolves around the Euron/Daario theory being legitimate as well, which has a really hard foundation of evidence that I spent the past few weeks going over. Ignore any misgivings you might have for that idea at the moment, and just assume it to be right (because this tidbit of information is way down the line. I'm working on a video explaining it all).

If you assume Daario is telling half-truths about his journey(s) to Westeros, there is a passage where Daario might be cryptically explaining the origin of the dusky woman and also talking about Sandor.

Just briefly, no one should know that people would be turning to cannibalism for food in a city under siege. When you are in a besieged city, the doors are locked. No one gets in or out. You don't want the besiegers to know you're desperate or there is no chance that they might lift the siege. When Meereen comes under siege Dany does exactly this. She says to locks the gates, no one gets in or out. Also IIRC the coalition eventually assaults Astapor, which doesn't make sense if they knew the city had dire food problems.

Recall that Euron gives Victarion the dusky woman with her tongue cut out, that he says is from a slaver bound for Lys, and the only other thing we know about her is she hisses at Moqorro when she eventually sees him. Remember also that Hardhome had Lyseni ships enslave their women before Cotter Pyke's fleet arrive. We know this from Cotter's message to Jon and Arya talks about learning it because one of the ships ends up in Braavos, the other is missing.

So anyway, if Daario is actually cryptically being a liar, this passage of text makes more sense than just being a random Daario anecdote about nothing. The Long Lance would refer to a spearwife (long lance type weapon) coming from the ship out Lys. The Red City, where we know people are actually eating each other, would refer to Hardhome due to the fiery inferno it suffered from a century ago. This... actually explains why the dusky woman might hiss at Moqorro, because Lys has one of the largest Red temples (according to the wiki) and there could have been a red priest on those ships when she was captured and sold into slavery.

And then we get to the part about the yellow dog, well, it could refer to Sandor. Why? Well because his sigil is yellow, and we also don't know what the words of House Clegane are, but in another thread that is currently ongoing Sandor said "A hound will die for you, but never lie to you." which might mean their House words have something to do with not being liars.

Anyway, the part where it reinforces that this has to do with Sandor is where Daario talks about his new stormcrow recruits just a few paragraphs up...

So, yes, while this theory is out there and there is little explanation as to how or why Sandor would leave the QI, or why Euron/Daario would even travel to the QI, there are some very specific things that GRRM has intentionally written into the text that are eyebrow raising, if nothing else.

Well, you sure raised my eyebrows! The plot thickens. I have been wondering about the dusky woman and how convenient it is that she cannot speak. I didn't miss the hissing incident either. So many mysteries, so many decades to ponder over all of them..... Thanks. I still hope that wherever his travels take him, eventually, he will end up with Sansa! I can't help it!

I love the idea that Sandor's tale is one of redemption!

Starting out as the rotten Kings Dog, losing his way/mind becomes isolated and near death he is re-born as the very type of Knight Sansa dreamed of. The idea that he'd be charged with the task of rescuing Sansa from the clutches of LF is a juicy one! Having him ascend to the top of the Eyrie to rescue her may be a tad corny for GRRM but the sheer amount of misery and misfortune warrants a good story to balance it out?

'There had been a sister who had died young under queer circumstances'

Also, the beginning of TGoT, Gregor 'was soon to be married for the third time, and one heard dark whisperings about the deaths of his first two wives'

Poor women! I don't think his wives (it seems there are no kids) are ever mentioned other than in that Ned chapter, or am I wrong?

Yeah, I think we're supposed to infer that Gregor killed the sister and his wives. I think Sandor's the gravedigger.

I have to discount the Daario=Euron theory based on travel times. Once Balon Greyjoy is dead, Euron never leaves the west coast of Westeros - there's no evidence for it and much evidence against it. Meereen is half the world away and autumn storms and pirates are everywhere. Now, if you wanted to argue that Daario has visions, I could go with that. There's more than one way to know what's going on in another place.

^ There's no point in telling that to people, anyone who thinks Dario is Euron is not going to be listening to logic.

Maybe totally crackpot but what if Euron found a quicker way from the Iron Islands to Mereen.

What is also this earth is Round! That way, the West of Westeros and the East of Essos would be close by.

Euron could be the Columbus of the Iron Isles.

That way he can also be Daario, traveling to Mereen much quicker then Victarion
